TransAlpine Cycle training Diary 1

Hello eveyone
Well the weather in Christchurch has been very changable, rained hard most of yesterday and this morning was very overcast. Had planned on a cycle ride today and wasn't sure if it was going to go ahead or not? But the weather tunred out good, so cycled into the city from where I live (10kms) and met my friend.
We decided to cycle up Dyers Pass to the Summit road, that winds it's way along the top of the Port Hills. Although had a bit to eat at the Sign of the Kiwi before heading on past Sugar Loaf and where the tv transmitter is. Now didn't have a camera with me this time as waiting to get a new digital but once I get one , then have plans for a new photo blog, so watch this space on that one.
Anyway it was a really nice ride, with very little traffic and gave a slight idea of what is is like to ride for a while. Must say that even though it was fairly warm, on the quick decents you got chilly pretty quickly, so got me thinking about winter and the Alps.
Still stopped in Sumner for a can of V and then blitzed it across the causeway, clipping along at about 45-55kms in some stages, which along the flat isn't too bad.
So today was 55kms in about 3hrs and I was bloody knackered when I got home too!!
Last night I found an article from the The Press in 2002 that I had kept in which someone cycled across in summer Christchurch to Greymouth, whereas we are doing it the other way round in winter.
It will be about 260kms in 3 days which =86.6 kms a day, which with shorter days will mean some kind of night riding I guess? so this week I have clocked up about 180kms which isn't bad but that was over 6 days! But it will be fun sorting out all of the logistics etc.
Must be time for another photo, so lets see what I can find?
Saw this cool old Beetle when I was out and about so thought it would make a cool photo.
Anyway both cats aren't about so no words of wisdom from them tonight, so you will just have to put up with me.
