Top 10 Best Buffy Episodes Ever

June 18th 2009 13:48

In case you haven't heard yet, there is a possiblity of a new Buffy movie without the genius of Joss Whedon and the television show cast that made it the pop culture touchstone that it is today. This suspicious blogger thinks that paying Joss Whedon and the T.V cast would simply be too expensive and they want to hire a bunch of unknowns to keep costs down. Anyways, in protest of this blasphemous idea, I have compiled my top 10 favorite Buffy episodes of all time. There were many more that I wanted to include (like the entire 1st & 2nd seasons) but, alas, I kept it minimal. The magic of this show is what would be missing from the movie. Without further ado.....My favorite shows of my favorite show. Just hearing the Nerf Herder theme makes my heart pitter patter a little faster.

10. I Only Have Eyes For You- The concept was genius, two ghosts of lovers who died of a murder/suicide posess Buffy and Angel on the night of the Sadie Hawkins dance. At the time Angel was evil Angelus, but to see him comforting Buffy and trying to talk her out of her broken heart still gets me. In the end it was just a good ghost story.

9. Something Blue- Willow accidentally puts a love spell on Buffy and Spike and accidentally makes Giles blind. The episode is one of my favorite Spike episodes, he and Buffy making out in front of a blind yet still disgusted Giles is one of the funniest moments of the series.

8. The Wish- It's a wonderful life with Cordelia, who wishes that Buffy never came to Sunnydale. It marks the first time Anya appeared on the show and playfully foreshadows Willow's future lesbianism.

7. Becoming Part II- As a 16 year old girl when this episode aired, I was breathlessly awaiting the sex scene with Buffy and Angel, but the real shocker was what came after, Angel suddenly "becoming" a different person bent on killing her was brilliant. The kicker was the one on one fight scene when Angel is given back his soul and the agonizing choice Buffy makes to send him to hell. Best Buffy Season Finale Ever!

Buffy and Angel

6. The Body- This was Buffy at its best and an accurate depiction of human death and the senselessness of it. Buffy's friends try to help her, but Anya's poignant speech about Joyce and not understanding death is heartbreaking. Not even the slayer can defeat natural death.

5. Welcome to the Hellmouth- The first ever episode of Buffy, an introduction to Buffyverse. Oh and Angel, how young you were! It makes me remember when I wanted to look and dress just like Buffy.

4. Prophecy Girl- Buffy struggled over season one over normalcy and being the slayer. She puts on her big girl pants; triumphs over her fear of dying young and skips the dance only to die in the end. One of the first Buffy finales where Xander saves the day.

3. Halloween- Genius! Everyone becomes their Halloween costumes at midnight. Buffy becomes a gentlewoman who faints at everything. Angel is horrified. And what could be better than Army Xander? I can tell you. Nothing.

2. Once More with Feeling- They sing, they dance, they got the mustard out! Stunningly beautiful songs like "I'm under your spell" made the episode stand out, I still listen to it. And I love that they had to dance. Buffy reveals that her friends took her out of heaven. This episode was truly groundbreaking.

1. Hush- Words can't express my love of this episode. Some of the most genuinely scary monsters ever, the Gentlemen were truly terrifying. Those nasty silver teeth, the not walking. Creepy. The primal scream Buffy releases at the end is cathartic for every girl watching who has ever been told to keep quiet and be ladylike.

Honorable Mentions:

Bewitched, Bothered, Bewildered- Xander tries to win back Cordelia and accidentally puts a love spell on all women. Hilarity ensues.

Superstar- They even changed the credits, the few times that ever happened in Buffy history. Johnathan wants to be a supercool hero and he changes reality to make it happen. I really liked what they did with the episode, highly underrated.

Chosen- The last ever Buffy episode. Anya dies, Spike does as well, for a little while. And finally, Sunnydale does down in flames. The real kicker was that all "potential" girls who had an innate power inside became strong. And it just seved as another great metaphor for how Buffy made girls like me empowered simply by watching. As a teenage girl, there weren't shows that made me feel that way the way that Buffy did.
