The Parramatta Eels have unearthed a new NRL star in winger Tony Williams but their gain is soon to be their loss with the boom rookie already scooped up and signed by the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles for the 2009 season. The man is a giant, apparently his nickname is 'T-Rex' amongst Eels teammates.
Weighing in at 115kg and standing 6'4 tall, Tony Williams is a hulk and certainly a scary sight running down the flank on an NRL Rugby League field.
With Eels winger Eric Grothe Jnr out of form and having defensive issues in 2008, he was replaced by Tony Williams, but sadly for Eels fans - this all comes too late. Williams signed by Manly to big money and lost to the Eels seemingly forever.
Manly have recruited well for the 2009 season, also snaring Chris Bailey from the Newcastle Knights. The brother of UK Super League star Phil Bailey, Chris has been a gun for the Knights at pivot and will be sorely missed.
Only just breaking into the peak of his career, Chris has scored a batch of tries and setup plenty - being pivotal in the Knights good run during the 2008 NRL season. Coach Brian Smith reacting angrily to the loss of Chris Bailey by dropping the form player to the lower grades for a short spell.
The news of Tony Williams might only be good for Eric Grothe as the aging Eels winger might get a shot back at his old flank spot, albeit with some improved defence technique in the lower grades.
