Jeanne, that's a fascinating find -- though my blog too is not yet ranked. Guess I'll be waiting on pins and needles!

I was intrigued to discover that one can get an email notice regarding change of rank. I signed up -- I must be a masochist.

on Nice Matters Award: A Blogger's Gift

Thanks, Jeanne, for passing the "Nice Matters" baton over to me. That's very gracious of you.

I'm certainly finding that we bloggers, esp those of us who are real writers, can often be very nice to one another. It's a real community, right at the tip of our fingertips.

BTW, the award button is challenging me. I haven't figured out how to get it into a sidebar widget on my blog yet. Ah, more homework...

Taxes? Oh, my god, you just ruined my holiday season!

Anyway, I've passed along the misery to the readers of my blog as well. Thanks for tracking all that stuff down.

Curiously, Jeanne, I was just thinking this morning about the question of where best to put the comment link -- even referred to the matter in my post today. AND I concluded that maybe all the comment stuff, including the number of comments should go at the top AND the bottom.

I have a sense that many readers miss the comments altogether, because the links are just to inconspicuous at the bottom. If prominent at the top, then a reader can click on the headline and see the comments.

I guess there's no real BEST way!

Dianna, this should be a most interesting thread, especially for new and younger writers.

You are certainly right that persistence is key to blogging. I started my blog 11 months ago, and it's become a prominent feature of my morning routine. Mind you, there are times when the blog feels like a huge weight to carry, but I've found after 2-3 days off, I'm right back at it.

I admire your ambition to support yourself with your writing and art, especially at your early age. GOOD LUCK.

Working smarter, not harder -- a very good idea in the blogging business!

on The Technorati Taskmaster: Is it Worth Appeasing?

December 2nd 2007 02:14
When I first started my blog 11 months ago, I was all wrapped up in Techorati and Alexa and Google. But after three months of seeing my rank about 500,000, I said, to heck with it.

Our constellation of blogs comprise a very small niche in the webosphere. There's no way our "rank" will amount to diddly squat. More important, I've come to believe, is our traffic curve and our subscriptions, along with the growth in commentary from readers. And maybe some recognition for our peers.

So, for Christmas, all I want is 100 subscribers -- I'm currently at 82 -- and 5000 unique visits [I'm at 4600]. Is that asking too much, Santa Claus?

What a nice gesture to your readers, Jeanne. It's good to spread the love around -- and it allows us readers an opportunity to conveniently look into lots of other blogs.

By the way, I'm impressed with the way your blog handles comments. By comparison, my blog falls far short. Guess I've got yet some more fine-tuning to do.

Tom

I've just added a post to my blog about your review, your blog and Orble -- inviting you to comment more about your own experience with Orble as a host. It's certainly new to me, and I'd like to know more. And, by the way, congratulations on your top ranking at Orble -- you've got good karma!

My post, incidentally, probably will not show up on my blog for another 12 hours or so.

Gosh, Jeanne, what a surprise! Thanks for the very cordial review of my blog.

I've also enjoyed roaming around the environment you are working in with your own blog, which I'd never come across before. It's an intriguing corner of the blogging world.
