September 23rd 2010 14:40
So it has been a little while since I have posted anything. There is a very good reason for it I promise. On September 2, 2010, my second child was born. It was our second daughter. Her name is Libby Annabell. This has kept me very busy, but life is returning to the new normal so expect many new articles soon!!!!

Refinancing

July 22nd 2010 14:38
So we bought our first house about two years ago. We put about 10% down and put the rest on a 20 year mortgage. Our interest rate is 6.375%.

So I am trying to figure out what to do.

Rates in the US have dropped to an all time low. I can currently refinance for 3.875% for 15 years.

The only problem is that we are only down to about 84% of our loan to value ratio. This means that we would have to pay PMI (private mortgage insurance) for two years. It would be about $50 a month. We would also have to pay about $2,000 in closing costs.

What should I do?

Anyone want to give me several thousand dollars? Or several people give me a few hundred dollars?

I guess we will see what I decide to do.

Vacation

July 9th 2010 13:00
So this is my second day back from vacation. It was a nice long 5 days off. During my time of we took it easy. We went swimming some and enjoyed time together.

On the note of swimming, we went to my wife's parent’s pool. They converted it over to a salt water pool this year. I was not sure if I would like it or not. I have decided that I do like it. When you get out of the pool you don't have that feeling that your skin is so dry and tight.

I was told that the level of salt is very low, about that of a tear. I don't recall the exact numbers, but I think that they said a tear was about 2,000 ppg and the ocean was about 30,000 ppg, so it is no where near as salty as the ocean.

I also spent a little time working in the yard and garage. One of my gutters has been stopped up. I tried to get the leaves out of it but could not reach down far enough to get everything. It started getting dark so I had to stop. We got a little bit of rain that night. The next day I started taking it apart to realize that I had gotten enough out for the rain to clean out the rest. Oh well...at least it is done!!!

This is not my gutter, it was not that bad. I thought I would put a picture up in case someone did not know what a gutter looked like.

Other than that I don't think that we did much of anything else.

Friday

July 2nd 2010 12:41
I am so glad that it is Friday. For those in the U.S. it will probably be an extra long weekend....in a good way. This Sunday is the Fourth of July. There will be cookouts and fireworks. Families will get together and spend some quality time. Hopefully a good time will be had by all.

Since I am not taking off this summer to go to the beach (see prior posts) I am taking an especially long weekend. I will be off for five straight days

The Wedding

June 23rd 2010 13:01
So this past weekend my sister got married. It was a beautiful service and a great reception. Everyone had fun. The wedding was held at the Hermitage, the home of President Andrew Jackson. There was one MAJOR problem. NO AIRCONDITIONING. Some people may be things so, what's the big deal. It was 98 degrees that day!!!

My sister has lived in Boast the past three years and has apparently forgotten how hot it gets in the south. I looked at the weather for Boast and it is around 80 degrees. No air conditioning in that weather is fine

The Beach

June 11th 2010 14:28
My favorite time of the year is the summer. I love the summer. As a kid I could not wait for summer vacation. It meant a time when I could do whatever I wanted to do. My usual summer activities consisted of anything outside. I would spend hours fishing and taking adventures into the woods behind my house. I would explore, create forts, and anything else I could imagine.

The other thing that I looked forward to during the summer was our family vacation. I know that some people hate going on vacation with their families, but not me. It was the highlight of my summer

Lightening bugs

June 10th 2010 12:51
Last night I was on my way home from church. The sun was beginning to set. There was still enough daylight left to see, but dark enough that lights were already being turned on. It was a two lane road that I was driving down. There were houses on the left, set off the road about 100 yards. Railroad tracks on the right about 25 yards to the road. As I was driving I began to notice that there were lightening bugs everywhere.

I commented to my wife about the number of lightening bugs we saw. As we drove down this road, it slowly began to get darker and darker. The lightning bugs continued to come out of hiding and lighting up. It was a very beautiful sight. We got to see hundreds and hundreds of the critters lighting up as we drove by. It made me feel like a kid again. My wife made the comment that it made her want to go out and catch them. She also stated that they were giving us our own light show
