To tatt or not to tatt

So here goes.
My birthday is approaching and I am considering getting a tattoo. The "good girl" that I am is caught up between my family's utter disdain for body art and my own indesciveness. I can't commit to a pair of shoes per day, how am I to decide on a marking for my body permanetly and where?
I am considering "Up Once more old tired heart" an Emerson quotation which has resonated in me since the first time my dear friend said it. "Up once more old tired heart" interpreted as a beautiful description of the experiences of life and how to continue to forge on, collecting and recreating, cataloguing and understanding this world. I would like to put it on my left ribcage underneath my arm, in that oh so tender smooth skin. It was recommended as I am right handed and will therefore be able to touch it, fingering and retattoing the impact of those 6 words. And of course there is Emerson, possibly I will create a divine connecton between me and Emerson from his words being scrapped into my skin..or just a rash.
Should I go forth and declare my love of Emerson and those six words in a physical manifestation or should I continue to pine away? Should I place it so far from most people's sight so its mine or should I put it some place more publicly?

Anyhow my advice to you is this: Make so mistake it hurts like f$%ck BUT the rewards are worth it.
If you select the tattoo and the spot carefully you will love you Tattoo and it will inspire you and give you strength.
I have most of mine in places that people other than my partner rarely see; only because I think Tattoo's are intimate and personal, the words or the image you chose become part of you and always give you strength.
It seems like you have chosen your words well so I say go for it......aonther warning it is a little but addictive. My first Tattoo like you was against the better judgement of my family, but guess what when you do something like that for yourself great things happen. During my first Tattoo I meditated through the pain and from that new perspective I saw things in life seemingly obvious that had never been clear to me before.....almost straight after my Tattoo, my life went through a period of wonderful change some painful some exciting but all for the good.....all my Tattoo's in some similar way have had similar significance in my life, learning acceptance of myself, finding love and this recent one, well who knows, all I know is it feels good through the pain and a wonderful addition to my body, I feel its energy daily and see new paths i wish to take that I never saw before......
Good luck......someone gave me good advice...this will sound stupid but REMEMBER TO BREATHE, breathing through the pain lessens it and takes your mind to new and wonderful places.
P.S. i wrote my post on Tattoo's anyhow, just modified my Theme to your post and put a link back to you Tatts Rock..I say do it

Love Speaks
You mentioned that you're a little undecided on the piece and whether to get it or not. I'd suggest that you do it only when you're really sure, only 'cos it stays with you for life. Of course u can decide to later take it off. My friend did. ...with 6 sessions of laser, which turned out more painful than the tattoo session!
I love my tattoos and have no regrets. It represents different phases of my life, and I took time to decide what I wanted -- one took a year to create!
All the best in your decision, and yes...
