Rocky's Running Diary - by edward

An U20 cross country and athletics runner, I took up club running two years ago for Randwick Botany Harriers, and train with Sean Williams' squad. Running plays a major part in my life; and this blog is a training diary in testament to that.

Current PBs:

800m - 2.12
1500m - 4.30
3k - 9.46
5k - 17.21
10k - 36.00
Queens Park 6k XC - 20.53
NSW AllSchools State XC 2005 U20s - 26th
National Cross Country 2006 U20s - 49th

Goals:

sub 2:10 800m (even sub 2:08)
4.25 1500m
sub 9.40 3k (even close to 9:30, idealy sub 9:30)
sub 17 min 5k (even 16.40)
sub 35:30 min 10k (even sub 35.00)
sub 80 min half

thursday 26th - 10000m race

October 26th 2006 11:46
36:00 for 10000m (18:00 thru 5k)
very tough race, pretty boring in the middle bits cos i was running by my self, but great fun.
was shooting for sub 36 as first goal, then as close to 35 as possible. and i wouldve broken 36 if i hadnt gone to stop my watch as i was crossing the line; or if we didnt have to run into lane 3 to finish i got 36:00:06 *this* close!
but i think that was worth a low 35, at least under 35:30 or 35:20, if i had been running with someone. there were parts in the middle where i couldnt keep putting the edge, the forward drive on, i was just tunning out. you need someone to race to distract you from the constant pounding which i wasnt ready for. still, 30 second pb and pretty happy.

first 2k in 7:06, first 3k in 10:40, 5k in 18:00, and last 2k in 7:03
but the first 3k and last 2k combined gives 17:43, and the middle 5k was 18:17. 34 second slowdown in the middle where i just tunned out and couldnt put on the drive. jumped out of it with about 6 laps to go when lazhar lapped me (again) and Sean said what i was thinking, which was to try to stick to him. i actually gained on him for a lap which mustve been moving, but after that i dropped off a bit but it put the intensity back, and i focused on lapping greta.
pretty good but know theres more to go. but dont think i was in sub 35 shape at all.
