These Six Things God Hates
June 7th 2007 13:34
"These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination to him: A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,a heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, a false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord amoung brethren" Proverbs 6:16-19
Yes God is love but, there are things that God hates. One of the worst things is when professing believers create division in the church. Another thing is the proud look. That look comes from a heart that thinks that he or she has acomplished things in life themselves and does not give God any credit for helping them along. A good illustration is when Nebuchadnezzar who was the king of Babylon had that proud look. He had a dream about a very large tree that flurished and was very lush. It's fruit was much and provided food. And the beasts of the field sought shade under it. Then a watcher came down from heaven. He instructed that the tree be cut down the leaves cut off and the fruit scattered all the birds chased away and the beasts be driven away. Only the stump of it was left. The wise men in Babylon could not interpret the dream and the king was troubled by it. Daniel was sought out to interpret the dream and here is the interpretation of it:
Nebuchadnezzar was the tree. He had grown strong and his kingdom had grown to dominate the whole world and it had even even caught the attention of heaven itself.
He was warned by God to repent of all his sins and specifically to stop oppressing the poor if he was to remain in his right mind much longer. He was given 12 months to change his attitude and get right with God.
So, fast forward 12 months later as Nebuchadnezzar was walking through his palace, he said in verse 30 of Daniel "Is not this great Babylon that I have built for the house of the kingdom by the might of my power and for the honor of my majesty?"
Apparently, the king forgot the warning that he recieved a year earlier. Also, after the episode with the three hebrews that were delivered from the firey furnace, you would think this would not happen. This is a common problem among the proud of heart. They forget who it is who is really in control of things here on earth. Even those who claim Christ as their Lord and Savior!! So, right in the middle of his haughty declaration, his sanity left him and for 7 long years, he was as a wild animal A voice from heaven declared that the kingdom was departed from him. The lesson here was and still is that you cannot be the captain of your own destiny. Until Nebuchadnezzar recognized the fact that God controls the course of history, his senses were not restored. And if a person boasts out of pride their accomplishments, The Lord can humble you. The consequences are very serious for pride as it is listed as the #1 thing on God's hate list. Remember God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble.
