The Wicker Man [2006] - 4 Clocks

Sometimes a brilliant twist ending can make up for an otherwise mind-numbing movie. When that happens the masterminds behind the film can generally count on the masses to only really remember the brilliance of the last few moments and forget about the first hour and a half of lost time. The Wicker Man was unable to do even this.
I never saw the original version of The Wicker Man, but as I walked out of the remake I was left pondering two things…
1. Was the plot changed and if not which studio exec. saw the original and thought it needed a second go around???
2. What would make a talented actor like Nicolas Cage sign on to a movie with little to offer movie goers???
Like I said I have not seen the original film and therefore can provide no insight as to why it was remade. As for what motivated Cage, perhaps it was the essentially all female cast. There is however one thing I do know for sure. Unless a script has a brilliant twist ending, a missing child on a remote island inhabited by a strange cult like community just isn’t going to cut it!
