The german Concentration Camps and The System Behind Them, by Eugen Kogon.
i havent even scratched the surface of this book and i can already tell it will ""Forever"" change me, and probably my children. Kaitlyn is done with homeschool for this year. Both of my kids are, but for Kaitlyn, she could be off school all the way until september but was soo excited, as was I <soft smile> to start our learning on The Holocaust. we had origanaly bought half the books two years ago, for studying this year taht just eended, but switched to Native America for a vacation out west.
This book, i have just thumbed through reading about five or soo pages and it's already affecting me. There are diagrams of The Murder Plant located in the Buchenwald Stable. it has undressing room, Shooting stand with embrasure covering killing room, killing room, drain for blood drawn out, spot where hose man stand, to spray the blood off of whoever has just been shot, after you've been stripped naked in front of tons of people, pile spot for bodies, cesspool....
It's just horrid!!!
i once had a dream, and i am 99.9 percent sure it was about the holocaust.i'm going to try and find it and put it here at some point. just because i want to read it again. i even told a friend about it and she thought it was from that, and i hadn't even told her what i thought it was. The only parts i remimber is being a young girl on a train, looking out watching and there where men with guns. i can't describe what i saw as well as i can still see it in my head. i could see out the eyes of this child, but i could also see her face. i don't remimber if this part was before or after taht but i was sneaking with a boy, hiding behind things. we could see a castle wayyyy out across a feild and we needed to get to it in order to be free. we had to go away from it, to get to the castle. we went towards a pond, and started to get in so we could hide. at the other end of the lake or pond something HUGE crashed into the water. it couldn't be worse then the guys with gubs, so i kept on heading into the water. all of a sudden a HUGE dragon fly swooped up under me, flying me around on his back....
we have other books toAuschwitz by Laurence Rees, The Diary of Ann Frank, Seduced By Hitler byAdam Lebor and Roger Boyes, The Most Evil Dictators in History by Shelley Klein, Into The Arms Of Strangers stories of the Kindertransport by Mark Jonathan Harris and Deborah Oppenheimer, The Holocaust Chronicle
Thats what we have so far and there may still be a couple more on the shelf. "Kaitlyn and i are starting to read it outloud together so i'm sure i will have lots to say about this. Just tragic and i can't understand how these things happen. "Who does these things!!" i mean i know, people like Hitler, but geesh, what kind of person could do these tragic, torture things to others. what gave them the right to swoop in and destroy peoples lives. how could they Hurt, kill, and torture other humans, animals or any living being. i didn't even realize how not soo long ago this was. some of it just twenty years before i was born. and i havent even seen all the dates yet. could have been even sooner before my birth. i'm 38. not taht it even matters how long ago it was. 100 years, 200 years, 1000 years. my grandma was alive then. where was our family origanally from. not from there i don't think, but we're all mixed races these days. taht doesn't matter either, what race thiey where, could have easily been any race, any background. we learned about slavery the first year, then Native Americans and i have learned sooo much i soo didn't know, that bothers me. ok, i'm, off to read with Kaitlyn and then off to bed, IF i can put this book down.

Flashes of memories
I used to read a lot of books on the Holocaust when we studied it at school. I recall one story of a family having dinner when guards burst into their home and forced the mother to shoot the rest of her family members. She refused to do it so they picked up her baby and tore it limb from limb in front of them all. She was in such a state that she shot everyone and before she could shoot herself they stopped her and took her away to a camp. I think that story is the most affecting story I have ever read, it has stayed with me over all these years because I just could not imagine the people who would incite such terrible things.
When I was in Amsterdam I went to Ann Franks house. They have stories on all the walls and video footage of what was going on around the time as well as interviews from survivors... just to be there and imagine what went on... imagine them all hiding away for so long while hearing the sounds outside and having that fear constantly in their hearts... ~shivers~
I love history but this period is just so disturbing. Sadly it seems that we have learnt little... similar things happen in Africa (watch the movies 'Blood Diamond' and 'Hotel Rwanda') where whole villages are completely wiped out.
The day that I left Zimbabwe we were driving to South Africa where I was to catch my plane for England and on the road we came across a crowd of about 50 or so youths running in a huge pack down the middle of the road. As we drove past they all started waving their fists and chanting. We had no choice but to drive through the middle of the crowd (we never hit anyone btw) so we had to slow down but we never stopped (you travel with doors locked). In the news the next day we heard that a village in that area had been burnt down and the women raped and some of the men murdered by a mob of youths who were in training for the army. I get shivers even thinking about it...
It is so sad what other people to do to each other isn`t it? I feel so awful even if I say the wrong thing to someone... to cause them pain to such a degree as these attrocities I could never even imagine!
