I wont mention names...
I run a very large Company in the Music Industry, I manage International acts and book for Clients and band tours and so much more else. Music is mostly, more than what you would contemplate, a strong relationship building area. Everything is based on good relationships and communication. If you dont have that, you will not last in the Industry.
Anyhow, last Saturday I received a phone call very early in the morning from one very distraught and upset lady. She was calling from the other side of Australia, she was very upset. She said to me "do you ahve X band on your books?" I said yes and she then went to explain how one week shy of a booking the band rang her and cancelled and then hung up in her face. She rang them back to ask for a reason as to which she was promptly and loudly told to "F*** OFF."
I could not believe what I was hearing..I was lost for words for atleast three days over this.
I asked her if she was OK, we had a big discussion and she calmed down a lot. She said to me, it is not your fault as I booked them outside of your Agency, but you need to know that thsi happened. I thanked her and asked if she needed any help and she said, YES PLEASE, I need another band by next Saturday.
I hunted like crazy to find her a band, all of her choices were booked out, so I got her a Sydney band. Over the course of the week, I had many conversations with the lady in question. She is so nice. The band that is performing for her, she has offered them free accomodation and is even going to pay them their money, which is an exuberant price even before they start their gig and pay for their meals and everything.
I am amazed that said band, spoke to her this way as they are known for their professional nature, while the client herself being such a nice person could be treated like this...For myself, I am only counting my blessing that this gig was booked externally from my Agency. But what they have done is unforgivable. They also did not palce the booking under contract, it was all verbal.
I feel as though I should drop the band off my books..even if I asked the band for a reason myself, I know that I would not accept any excuse they gave me. This is just not on.
The band in question is not a small unknown band...they have done huge gigs all over Australia and im wondering if the popularity ahs gone to their heads.
Would you drop them or give them a second chance?
