The Sense Selection Test

December 7th 2006 03:00

I have often been posed the question, if you had to choose which sense would you keep?
Most of us would say, well it really depends on the situation. But in the name of discussion and boredom, I am now flipping a coin…

Hearing! Is the lucky winner folks.

I didn’t just flip a coin, I did make a decision on this a while ago. Although I think that now sight would be a real bummer to lose, I often find myself doing tests in the middle of the night during the toilet run, so that I do not have to rely on it. Sure you get a couple of bruises, but it is in the name of survival training!

Don’t get me wrong, I am not willing this to happen, I just think the shock of losing a sense would be more severe if my other senses were not fully developed. I apply the same logic to using my left hand (as I am a righty), in writing.

The most obvious reason is that poor eyesight runs in my family. So I figure they will be busted in a couple years anyway, so why not choose the stronger sense? I have often been labelled ‘Big Ears’, not because they are literally big, but you get that twang in your ear when you are being talked about non? I cannot help but be interested when I hear my name raised in conversation I am not apart of.

Also, there is the most obvious reason is that I absolutely LOVE music. It feeds my soul and without it I would be a very morbid being indeed.

Besides, if I could get a lab or a stick to poke at people, it would make it all the more fun.

Just in case you have forgotten your senses, there are taste, sight, hearing, touch and smell.
And Im sorry, seeing dead people doesn't count, unless you actually can!
Any thoughts?

I hate to lose my sense of sight, I just can't live not seing the face of my daughter or reading a good novel or going online to blog.

IT is definitely relative to what you hold dear to your heart isn't it? Im sure the day I become a mother, it will probably change to sight also.
