The secret properties of garlic

May 8th 2007 06:36
About a week ago, one of my blog pages talked about a natural food, garlic. This is a spice you may easily find in many Indian and Chinese dishes. Yet it has miraculous effect on our body. It helps our body resist the attack of many fatal diseases, including gastric cancer.

Garlic has a very strong flavour, many people find it difficult to swallow the food in raw condition. But there is one easy way for you to take in the food and get the benefit of protect you body with its special properties. You may mix 1gm of the spice with a glass of buttermilk and drink it. If you drink a glass of this mixture twice a day regularly, it will lower you blood pressure.

The natural substance found in garlic, Allicin which is the source of the strong odor, will soon react with other component and loose its potent healthy properties once you cut or peel the cloves into pieces. So you need to consume the food as soon as possible to get the best benefit.

According to some report, garlic is considered as a miracle food and many Asians use it as a home remedy for many complaints. The healing properties of garlic as an antiviral and anti bacterial agent are now backed with scientific evidence.

Scientists have shown that the compounds in garlic are good for heart. They help to lower blood pressure, reduce cholesterol production in the liver, suppress harmful cholesterol and raise level of the beneficial high-density lipoproteins in the blood. Garlic is considered one of the most important herbal supports for blood pressure and cholesterol reduction.

The main draw back to eating garlic is that it makes the breath smell and to some people it can cause allergies.
