The Rubik's Cube - by Ruby

The Shot or not to Shot?

July 21st 2007 11:57
So, I figured I'd treat myself to a flu shot since I keep getting the flu. or is it the cold? I'm not too entirely certain. But one thing's for sure, working in an enclosed office environment where we spend at least 8 hours a day, ups the risk on exposure of a bug going round the office.

We all know that the flu is a virus, which is different for each person and at each infection. As such, right after recovering from a flu episode a couple weeks ago does not mean that I won't be infected by the virus this week. It's a losing battle, especially when you're living in a tropical region where there are torrential rains and it is air conditioned indoors, to keep out the summer heat

Cry Freedom

July 12th 2007 04:29
I used to think that the extremities and rebellions that teenagers and young adults portray brings shame to the family and reflects badly on their parents and their upbringing. Even, maybe these juveniles have stumbled onto the wrong path. But now, I believe that there are those who break out solely for the faith in "freedom".

In this world where everything has to be in it's place and time and being a "good person" is defined by culture, religion and parental/family acceptance, where does the bit of individualism and existence come in

Flowers and Women

June 7th 2007 07:08
So, I received a huge bouquet of flowers delivered to the office today... with no note from whom they're from and why. Hmmm... I should probably know who the sender is but he could've at least said something too? Anyways, my point here is... women and flowers are a conflicting subject. At least on my standpoint, I love to receive flowers and surprises but at the same time, they only last for so long. And we all know how pricey they can be too. Which is kind of a waste when you watch them wilter and die. Women, being the more sensitive yet intellectual species, reckon that the money should rather be put to better use. Like a nice dinner, or the dress that she has been eyeing on or even accessories for her MacBook.

I suppose, it's more of an emotional affair. Flowers are sent to signify an "I'm Thinking Of You" or "Just Because" or "I Miss You" but the best reason to give women flowers is for no reason at all. When you buy her that bouquet because you made a boo-boo, although the gesture is nice, it's clear that it's a mercy plea or forgiveness

Skin Deep

May 29th 2007 08:39
Beauty has sadly been defined as the latest Hollywood star, sex appeal and fashion trend. Spiced up with reality shows like Extreme Makeovers and the Next Super Model. It is cultivated in our minds that beauty means a perfect figure, a tight ass and flawlessness.

Having watched Shallow Hal on telly last night, I was moved by the simplicity and forthrightness of the underlying lesson that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. True that outer beauty only lasts as long as youth and anti-ageing cosmetics are in favour of us. But inner beauty shines through the foundation, mascara and six pack abs anytime and day

5 Tips For Being On Time!

May 27th 2007 14:17
Well, I'm not one to be late for personal appointments. But for some reason, when it comes to work and arriving on time to the office, I'm almost always late.

Thank gawd for the flexi-hours policy the company has recently adopted, which enables the Y-Generation (people like yours truly) who don't quite see the point of strict times to be in or out of the office, as long as the required number of hours are clocked in and the work gets done. We all work late anyways, so that should make up for time loss of coming in late, surely

Butterfly Effect

May 24th 2007 02:54
The "Butterfly Effect", or more technically the "sensitive dependence on initial conditions", is the essence of chaos.

Decisions, people, acquaintances, heartbreaks, death, birth... maybe, we wouldn't be where we are right now if it hadn't been for all that. It signifies the saying "everything happens for a reason". Well maybe, I had wished some hadn't happened at all. But maybe, they did happen to ricochet me to the destined path. Maybe, I could've had more control over the outcome or choices. Ultimately, the "maybes" are endless

Office Karmasutra

May 22nd 2007 14:47
With longer working hours than ever before, what's a modern singleton to do other than glance over to the next office or cubicle to find true love? However, "never dip your pen into company ink" seems to be the current battle cry when it comes to office romances. And yet, there seem to be an increasing number who are willing to forgo the rules and office romances blooms.

I am not speaking for myself here, for obvious reasons that there aren't any worthy single available men in the office!! But my personal opnion is, wouldn't it be a little too stifling to have your beau within 50 yards away from you in an 8 hour workday. And then, lunchtime spent together and after work dinner dates... The relationship would be intense and densed, spending every minute together. Urgh... What happens to "distance makes the heart grow fonder
