Real Issues

August 23rd 2011 22:29
As I sit here and write about developing my own life, I cannot help but wonder about the problems that lie within the vast societies of the world.

We live in a world that just simply cannot be explained. We are constantly seeking answers, and we are constantly looking for the perfect solution to every problem. However this is what I have come to realise in the time I have been here. Every action has a reaction. You fix one problem and another one arises.

For instance, the poverty in Africa. Sure we can send food and water to those starving children. However what good is that going to do if we dont teach them how to be self sufficient. We can send in volunteers to help build communities, cure diseases etc, but what good is that going to do if we dont teach them how to build their own communities. As opposed to sending in doctors to help cure disease, why not educate the children of these communities to become doctors, nurses, builders, teachers etc. Money is not a solution. It does not teach people to survive, it teaches people to be reliant. The same principal applies to your own household. For example, if you give your child everything he or she wants all of the time, the time you say no they will cause a massive scene in the middle of the supermarket and everybody will stare. I have worked in retail for 14 years and I see it every single day. 9 times out of 10 the parent will end up getting the child what it wants just to get them to stop making a scene. Why does this happen? Because the child has not grown up to know the true value of what it takes to earn the things you want for yourself. Every single person on this earth is on a journey to learn throughout their lives on earth. Personally I have always had to work really hard to get the things I want. Sometimes the odds are against me, however most of the time I get there. There is always a way of getting there, its just a matter of getting your mindset heading in the right direction.

Lets go back to Africa. Why after so many years are they still experiencing the same problems of poverty, malutrition and disease? Could it simply be that they have not be taught how to see past the problem to a solution. In my own personal experiences, whenever there has been a problem in achieving something I have visualised ahead to how I want something to be and worked backwards. An example would be, I want to go to the USA next year for a holiday. I do not have enough saved. So my thought process would be to plan the holiday, work out the cost of my bills while I am away, calculate the amount of weeks until I wanted to go on holiday and then work out how much I would have to put away each week leading up to the date I want to go away and then i would think about how I am going to raise the money to get there. If you stare at your bank account balance without looking beyond the obstacle, you will never get there.

So my advice is to look beyond the problem and then you will see a solution.

Thats all I have time for today, but any thoughts please comment.

LIfe is a Highway

August 21st 2011 11:44
Has anyone ever listened to the song by Meatloaf, Objects in the Rear view mirror. It is one of my most favourite songs, mainly because of the two lines in his song
'Life is just a highway, and my soul is just a car'.

This is such a true comparison to the way I feel about my life. I cannot speak for everyone else out there, however I would like to explain my reasoning behind this analogy.

Life is a highway, well this refers to the roads in which we take to get to our final destination in life. We each have our own road, our own highway and our own wrong turns to take in life, sometimes we travel alongside other cars, however in the end our route is always changing and no two cars follow exactly the same road for the entire destination. Some of us get lost along the way, some of us break down along the way, some of us reach our destination sooner than others, and some of us end up travelling along a long and lonely road.

Now our soul is just a car, this is my favourite line in the song. Why? Well Im glad you asked. This is what I believe. We each are given a car to start with in life. Most of us start out with a shit box. Some of us work really hard to upgrade to a second car and then hopefully, once we have worked hard and earned it we will upgrade to a brand new car. On the other hand some of us never progress past the shit box. Do you catch my drift.

Life is exactly like this for me and I see the trends in peoples lives as we grow older, learn and adapt to new situations.

There are the people out there that do break down, some learn how to overcome the obstacle by looking past the problem to a solution and some just give up and wait to be rescued. The one true thing is that each person has a unique journey to travel in life.

What do you think?
Until next time

Im sure you have heard the saying "Give a man a fish and you have fed him for a day, Teach a man to fish and you have fed him for a lifetime".

This is such a powerful proverb that applies to every single human being on this planet
