The revolution Obama in Action
February 3rd 2009 06:57
It is official: Guantanamo is going to close its doors. The newly instituted President Barrack Obama signed, today, the papers for the detention center to be closed. The controversial center should close within one year and torture actions that used to be praticed in it are, from now on, abolished.
Few days ago, the eyes of the entire world were watching the celebrations of Obama’s institution ceremony. For many these eyes were filled with hope.
For American minorities, Obama’s victory is a symbol. It represents the beginning of a new era for them as well as hopes for political and social changes.
From an international point of view, Obama (because of his origins and mixed background) represents a hope of change in the international politic of the US.
From today this era of change seem to be in motion. All the televisions of the world are announcing the first step: the much criticized Guantanamo center is going to close.
There is no doubt that the US international politics, of these late years, created a lot of controversy around the world as well as worries specifically in the Middle East and the Arabic world. The interventions in Iraq (without the support of the UN), the threats toward Iran and other countries, the detention of supposively terrorists in Guantanamo with no way to be reached created fear anger and frustration in many countries. We can certainly say that Bush’s international politics did not make the US popular around the world.
Today marks a definitive change. The hopes and prayers of many seem to have received an echo. Only two days after taking his functions; the new president of the United States Barrack Obama is initiating a definitive turn in the US International politics.
So today it is Guantanamo’s turn, what’s next?
The world is waiting for other changes Mr President.
