The Prelude

An hour later, Occam and the woman emerged from the motel room. The night still retained its feeling of gloriousness to Occam and the past hour only served to improve his spirits further. The time would be soon that he could satisfy his thirst, but first, a little more playing would be in order. They separated briefly. The woman walked down to the store to buy a drink and to meet her friend. Occam wandered down the street in the opposite direction and began tasting the air again.
Five minutes later the woman returned with her friend. Occam noticed the smell of jasmine and vanilla in the air. He looked up at the friend and was startled badly. A wave of recognition passed through him. Was it really her? Surely not. The newcomer was a petite woman with sandy blonde hair and chocolate colored eyes. Her skin was milky white and perfect. She smiled broadly at Occam. Occam took her hand and kissed it gently.
“You didn’t tell me he was a gentleman Nikki,” the newcomer said.
Nikki, who was looking bemused at Occam, said, “Yeah, he’s a real Casanova. I should be paying him. The things he can do with his hands…”
She trailed off with the thought.
“Marie, I think you’ll like him. He seems like your kind of guy.”
Occam’s and Marie’s eyes met. Her eyes flashed a brilliant silver color before returning to their original chocolate. Occam’s mouth went dry. She smiled again and this time Occam noticed a hint of malevolence behind that smile.
Marie began to speak to Occam in French.
“We finally meet again,” She said.
“I have been sent to watch you and make sure you don’t interfere.”
“This doesn’t concern you, if you leave now you will be spared,” Occam said.
“If it concerns him, then it concerns me. He sent me here to keep you busy while he paid a visit to the girl.”
“What is he planning to do?”
“There was an incident earlier. He almost caught them but her intuition saved them, at least for now.”
Nikki was looking back and forth at the two of them, becoming increasingly bewildered.
“Marie, you know this guy?”
Marie ignored her.
“So what are you going to do with her,” Occam asked, gesturing to Nikki.
“I’m surprised she’s still alive, considering what we both are.”
“I don’t eat garbage,” She said simply.
“Do you mind then? It’s been a little while since I had a bite.”
She shrugged then wrinkled her nose as if she smelled something bad.
“If you like to eat shit then be my guest. Tell me, why didn’t you eat her when you had the chance earlier?”
“She told me she was meeting a friend. Why not get two for the price of one?”
“Indeed,” She said.
“So what is he planning to do?”
“Right now he’s on his way to the girl’s house. By the time you can even think about going to her it will be too late.”
This time Occam smiled and flashed the brilliant silver of his eyes.
“My dear, you have made two great errors and one of them will cost you your life.”
Occam turned and faced Nikki.
“My dear, would you mind waiting for us inside the motel room, there is something I would like to discuss with Marie. Think of it as… a surprise for you.”
He flashed a warm smile at her. She smiled back, obviously thinking about their previous meeting.
“Of course, but don’t keep me long. I hate to wait.”
“Patience,” He said. “You shall get what you deserve.”
He turned back to Marie and his eyes flashed silver again.
“As will you Marie.”
He bowed to Nikki and waved his hand in the direction of the motel. She smiled again and walked away. Occam and Marie watched her go, both smiling sweetly. Inside both of them the fire was beginning to catch. Their souls preparing for the battle that would take place momentarily. Each vampire undergoes a transformation of sorts when about to fight. The muscles in their bodies tighten like springs. Once a punch or a kick is expelled, the force of the blow can break through a brick wall. Some vampires are more efficient than others when channeling this energy.
Occam took three steps backward and went to his knees. He put his arms out in front of him and moved them to his sides, resembling a helicopter. After turning to each side he stopped and became absolutely still for several moments. His eyes opened and closed. He closed his eyes again, appearing to be asleep while sitting up. Marie watched Occam’s preparations with curiosity. Finally he opened his eyes. They were completely silver and the pupils looked like moving clouds. He reached inside his jacket and pulled out a wooden stick with a curved blade at the end.
Elizabeth had given the kama to Occam when he completed his training. It was once used as a farming tool in Japan which later became a weapon for samurais. When Elizabeth traveled to the Far East she learned the fighting style of these samurai and decided that their weapons might come in handy later on. She taught Occam this ancient fighting style and he prepared himself to use it.
He removed his jacket and stood. Marie watched in fascination.
“So you picked up a few things over the years.” It was a statement.
“Yes, my Mistress has taught me well,” He replied.
She smiled, fangs flashing.
“It does not matter. Even if you manage to kill me it will be too late for her.”
Occam lowered himself to a crouch, waiting for her to make the first move.
