The Power of One Person
March 15th 2007 01:01
Often a lot of people keep acknowledging that environment, animal extinction, war, society corruption, child abuse, famine or even poverty, is a world issue. “We can’t do anything, that’s how the world goes, let the big boys handle these. We have enough plates on our own.”
But do you know that we all can play a part? Do you know every single muscle tissue in the heart plays a crucial part, that whichever isn’t functioning kills the heart?
I would like to share this article I found from Self Empowerment, that how small good things we do, can still make a difference.
One Can Make A Difference
Extracted from Self Empowerment, by Bridget Menezes
There was a writer who used to go to the seaside to do his writing. He had the habit of walking along the beach before he began his work. One day, along the shore, he saw a human figure moving like a dancer. Intrigued, he began to walk faster to catch up.
As he got closer, he saw that it was a young man and he was not dancing. Instead he was picking up something very gently throwing it into the sea.
He asked the young man what he was doing, and the latter replied that he was throwing starfish into the sea. When asked why he was doing that, he replied that the tide was going out and if he did not throw them in the sea, they would die.
The writer said, “Young man, don’t you realise that there are miles of beach, and starfish all along it. You can’t possibly make a difference!”
The young man listened politely, then he bent down, picked up another starfish, threw it into the sea, and said, “It made a difference for that one.”
We are all gifted with the ability to make a difference. Once we become aware of that gift, we can gain the power to shape the future through the strength of our vision.
Thought for reflection:
Maintaining a state of inner calmness helps me to keep a cool head when I see others becoming heated and angry.
Personal Note:
No one is asking you to be a “hero” that goes out selflessly, sacrificing yourself. All help is needed from our very own doorstep. Every single gesture of every human being is worth a great difference in a nation. Lets do some tiny good things today.
