U.S. Senate Stands with NRA in Strongly Opposing U.N Gun Control Efforts

Friday, July 22, 2011

For nearly 20 years, the NRA has worked tirelessly to oppose any United Nations effort to undermine the constitutional rights of law-abiding American gun owners. The latest attempt by the U.N. and global gun banners to eliminate our Second Amendment freedoms is to include civilian arms in the current Arms Trade Treaty (ATT), which will be finalized next year.
In order for any treaty to take effect, however, it must be ratified by two-thirds of the U.S. Senate. To ensure that any ATT that includes civilian arms is dead on arrival in the Senate, the NRA has been working to get as many U.S. Senators as possible to publicly oppose any ATT that includes restrictions on civilian arms.
58 members-- a majority--of the U.S. Senate have signed letters to President Obama and Secretary of State Clinton saying they will oppose any ATT that includes civilian firearms ownership. These strongly worded letters caution the President and Secretary of State to uphold the Constitution of the United States. As Senator Jerry Moran's letter warns, “(A)s the treaty process continues, we strongly encourage your administration to uphold our constitutional protections of civilian firearms ownership. These freedoms are non-negotiable, and we will oppose ratification of an Arms Trade Treaty presented to the Senate that in any way restricts the rights of law-abiding U.S. citizens to manufacture, assemble, possess, transfer or purchase firearms, ammunition and related items.”
Thanking the NRA for our long-standing work on this issue, Senator Moran remarked, "I appreciate the NRA's partnership on this important effort to defend the rights of American gun owners. I want to thank them for their active support in sending a strong message to the Obama Administration that our firearm freedoms are not negotiable."
As we have for nearly two decades, the NRA will continue to fight against any U.N. treaty that undermines the constitutional rights of American gun owners. These letters send a clear message to the international bureaucrats who want to eliminate our fundamental, individual right to keep and bear arms. Clearly, a U.N. ATT that includes civilian arms within its scope is not supported by the American people or their elected U.S. Senators. We are grateful to Senator Moran, Senator Jon Tester, and all members of the Senate who have chosen to stand on the side of America's 80 million gun owners in opposition to those who want to eliminate our freedoms. And thank you as well to those NRA members who contacted their Senators and encouraged them to support this critical effort.

President Barack Obama
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, NWWashington, D.C. 20500
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton
2201 C St., NWWashington, D.C. 20520
Dear President Obama and Secretary Clinton:
As defenders of the right of Americans to keep and bear arms, we write to express our grave concern about the dangers posed by the United Nations’ Arms Trade Treaty. Our country’s sovereignty and the constitutional protection of these individual freedoms must not be infringed.
In October of 2009 at the U.N. General Assembly, your administration voted for the U.S. to participate in negotiating this treaty. Preparatory committee meetings are now underway in anticipation of a conference in 2012 to finalize the treaty. Based on the process to date, we are concerned that the Arms Trade Treaty poses dangers to rights protected under the Second Amendment for the following reasons.
First, while the 2009 resolution on the treaty acknowledged the existence of “national constitutional protections on private ownership,” it placed the existence of these protections in the context of “the right of States to regulate internal transfers of arms and national ownership,” implying that constitutional protections must be interpreted in the context of the broader power of the state to regulate. We are concerned both by the implications of the 2009 resolution and by the hostility to private firearms ownership manifested by similar resolutions in previous years—such as the 2008 resolution, which called for the “highest possible standards” of control.
Second, your Administration agreed to participate in the negotiation only if it “operates under the rule of consensus decision-making.” Given that the 2008 resolution on the treaty was adopted almost unanimously—with only the U.S. and Zimbabwe in opposition—it seems clear that there is a near-consensus on the requirement for the “highest possible standards,” which will inevitably put severe pressure on the United States to compromise on important issues.
Third, U.N. member states regularly argue that no treaty controlling the transfer of arms internationally can be effective without controls on transfers inside member states. Any treaty resulting from the Arms Trade Treaty process that seeks in any way to regulate the domestic manufacture, assembly, possession, transfer, or purchase of firearms, ammunition, and related items would be completely unacceptable to us.
Fourth, reports from the 2010 Preparatory Meeting make it clear that many U.N. member states aim to craft an extremely broad treaty. A declaration by Mexico and other Central and South American countries, for example, called for the treaty to cover “All types of conventional weapons (regardless of their purpose), including small arms and light weapons, ammunition, components, parts, technology and related materials.” Such a broad treaty would be completely unenforceable, and would pose dangers to all U.S. businesses and individuals involved in any aspect of the firearms industry. At the 2010 Meeting, the U.S. representative twice expressed frustration with the wide-ranging and unrealistic scope of the projected treaty. We are concerned that these cautions will not be heeded, and that the Senate will eventually be called upon to consider a treaty that is so broad it cannot effectively be subject to our advice and consent.
Fifth, and finally, the underlying philosophy of the Arms Trade Treaty is that transfers to and from governments are presumptively legal, while transfers to non-state actors (such as terrorists and criminals) are, at best, problematic. We agree that sales and transfers to criminals and terrorists are unacceptable, but we will oppose any treaty that places the burden of controlling crime and terrorism on law-abiding Americans, instead of where it belongs: on the culpable member states of the United Nations who have failed to take the necessary steps to block trafficking that is already illegal under existing laws and agreements.
As the treaty process continues, we strongly encourage your Administration to uphold our country’s constitutional protections of civilian firearms ownership. These freedoms are not negotiable, and we will oppose ratification of an Arms Trade Treaty presented to the Senate that in any way restricts the rights of law-abiding U.S. citizens to manufacture, assemble, possess, transfer or purchase firearms, ammunition, and related items.

So less than a month ago our esteemed congress on all sides of the bench's announced that due to the high pressure of the whole debt issue that they would be commencing to go on their summer vacation. I sat here and as I sipped my morning coffee and smoking a cigarette, thought to myself. "Gee you know it must be nice to announce during a (more or less) state of emergency for the nation that you are going to stop working"?Now I am sure that at the time the leaders ( and I use that term loosely based on their actions), and I mean all the leaders on either side did not think days nor weeks ahead.
They, I am sure did not think that there would be a set of state of emergencies, nor that the Eastern part of the country would be shaken up a little. Now for us folks on the west coast a 5.5 earth qauck are nothing, just a little bump in the night. But for the folks on the eastern part of the country and our National monuments I am sure it was a shaker at best that is still being calculated for cost of repairs, and from the last I heard it would cost millions upon billions. Now we also have the whole recent repairs due to this big storm that has happened in the recent days is already being estimated into the millions of dollars. Even before the storm past New Jersey it was being estimated that it would cost millions and billions of dollops to repair.
Now why do I bring up the whole political leaders whining about how they were so overloaded with the debt issue that they needed to take a vacation? Even though we saw so many crying that it was a national emergency. Ok that’s fair enough yeah our debt was and is a national emergency, that I think everyone can agree with. But then they did something immediately perplexing for leaders that are supposed to serve the people and not themselves. They commenced to whine about how the debt issue was starting to cut into their vacation time.
Wait we have a national emergency and you are whining about your vacation time being interrupted? About how your plants are dying because you are not there to water them while jobs commence to die? Not to mention you commence to call a group of people who have a mindset that is politically driven called the tea party movement, terrorists? When you do not even dare call a terrorist a terrorist because you dot want to hurt the Muslim community’s feelings?
Now I will say I am sure there are some members in both houses that did stay behind and passed on their summer vacations, but who they are we doing know, will we know? More or less what I am asking is since when have our political leaders the ones we have elected to work for us decided that we work for them and that they have become so high up that we no longer matter to them.

Hello every one,
thank you all for coming by to barouse my blog. You know the other day while browsing though internet news I came across a article where Jane Fonda, otherwise known as Hanoi Jane to Vets since the early 70's. In this article Jane Fonda complained about how the home shopping channel amidst complaints from vets decided to pull her book plugging. Hence calling the vets that called into QVC and supporters of vets as being extremist. This is directly from Mrs. Fonda's website blog and her own comments on the issue.

And she calls Veterans groups extremists. Really! Really!

Really Long Link

I guess even the North Vietnamise comunists had a version of the USO with movie stars

I guess that was a flower planter and not a AAA gun cariage that she was getting ready to sit on

Jane Fonda: I was to have been on QVC today to introduce my book, “Prime Time,” about aging and the life cycle. The network said they got a lot of calls yesterday criticizing me for my opposition to the Vietnam War and threatening to boycott the show if I was allowed to appear. I am, to say the least, deeply disappointed that QVC caved to this kind of insane pressure by some well funded and organized political extremist groups. And that they did it without talking to me first. I have never shied away from talking about this as I have nothing to hide. I could have pointed out that threats of boycotts are nothing new for me and have never prevented me from having bestselling books and exercise DVDs, films, and a Broadway play. Most people don’t buy into the far right lies. Many people have reached out to express how excited they were about my going onto QVC and hearing about my book.
Bottom line, this has gone on far too long, this spreading of lies about me! None of it is true. NONE OF IT! I love my country. I have never done anything to hurt my country or the men and women who have fought and continue to fight for us. I do not understand what the far right stands to gain by continuing with these myths. In this case, they denied a lot of people the chance to hear about a book that can help make life better, easier and more fulfilling. I am deeply grateful for all of the support I have been getting since this happened, including from my Vietnam Veterans friends.

Well lookie here, peace huh, say isnt that a weapon she is holding

Really Mrs. Fonda? This coming from a woman and her kind of ilk who must have thought calling vets baby killers nothing more than a typical howdy do. You must have a hard pill to swallow to believe that guess what, Vets have not forgiven you. You complain about some far right plot against you like the typical queen that lives in her ivory tower castle and have not a ounce of worry in your day other then to look down amongst us little folk.
I find it completely hilarious that you among all of your 60's and 70's buddy's who claimed you where fighting against the system have become a clog in that system. I am sure back in the day you complained about all of these that have wealth and blah blah blah. I could go into the true feelings about how I feel and how I feel that you should have been tried for traitorous actions against this country in a time of war. But oh wait that's right you had your daddy's money and name to back you up so you could do whatever you wanted. See the vets that gave you there personal information when you visited them in the POW camp and I am sure you laughed at them and joked with their captors at the POW's expense. See you don't have to even acknowledge that all one has to do is look at that famous picture of yours.
Or have the Vets forgotten how you appealed to U.S troops fighting over in Vietnam your radio broadcasts hence adding to your name Hanoi Jane. Your actions at that time are traitorous and your betrayal ran deep. Now like some spoiled little brat who did not get her way you are stomping your feet and like most far left liberals, socialist, communists and pink's you are calling the vets extremists for calling in and asking QVC to cancel your book.
Well I am glad to say that when I called QVC for cancelling your book appearance I was told that decided to cancel your entire line and anything that has your name on it. I hope more company's pick up on this and cancel your line as well. So here is my open letter to you Mrs. Fonda.
Hanoi Jane
Hhmm lookie here she is vissiting a downed U.S plane on her visit

Dear Miss Jane Fonda,
I find it humorous that you find the decision of QVC to cancel your guest appearance on the shopping network. You had no problem back in the 60's turning to your communist ways and thrashing our troops, which I happened to be a vet of 12years. It's funny how you a supporter of extremist views and programs and indoctrination of Marxism and Communism. Do you still think that you where some innocent little girl caught up in the status of start symbolism when you sat down on a North Vietnamese anti-aircraft gun and posed as some pin up girl reject. Or you where a sweet innocent little girl who decided to turn over all of the POWS notes of papers that they so needed you to turn over to our government in confidence and their families in hopes of letting them know they were still alive. Did you laugh your head off when the North Vietnamese hauled off our vets to torture them to death or near death.
You are viewed as hard as it is to believe to be nothing more than a phony, you are nothing, you are no better than some savaging hypocritical scum bag. You have become very thing that you protested about and spat on. The country of America doesn't look to bad now huh, some forty years latter does it?
You lady are nothing more than a traitorous sack of filth, I have more respect for the thrash that deals drugs in our streets than I do and ever will for you. You didn't mind all the celebrity status your traitorous ways brought you and now guess what because there is a shopping outlet that does look down on you for your snubbing your nose to our vets when they needed you the most you are sitting in your ivory tower crying foul! foul! foul! Whining about how you are not accepted. Well you worthless piece of trash how does it feel. I hope more and more people and groups turn you down and away because of your past. So far I have been polite in the views that me and other vets feel towards you so I will leave it as so, with one last final wish you traitor, I hope your book completely flops and ends up on the worse seller list at the very top.
Hanoi Jane
Enough said

The Article insert was copied from Defense Tech, a on-line new periodical about the things going on and off in the military through MIlitary.com (http://defensetech.org/2011/03/29/a-10s-tag-team-with-p-3s-to-savage-libyan-coast-guard/ ) . I find it humorous that in all, since and purpose, since we are at war with Libya. Seriously we are at war we just don’t have the publicized boots on the ground yet. Not that I am complaining mind you, after all Qaudafy has sponsored state ran terrorist training camps, he has put hits out on our presidents, mainly Regan for sending bombs up his ass and whooping his butt back in the 80’s and treating him like the bastard red headed step child that he truly is.

But if we are going go in and whoop this guys butt then take him out all the way, take his head off and place it on a pole, gut him and then let his body roast in the sun. Because if we do not take him out, if we do not get rid of him and tie his little sons hands and gag his daughter then guess what. We think 9/11 was bad, that will be nothing compared to what this loony of the the sands will do to us. There are so many undocumented Libyans living here in the states and guess what I hate to sound like I am paranoid but in the recent years as we have seen from members in our own military and what I personally know. We will be hit like nothing has hit us before. They will make it there mission to make Pearl Harbor and 9/11 lookk like we where hit by kids compared to what they will do

Hello every one and welcome to my blog which I look forward to being the first of many and as the title states I am indeed a politacly incorect conservative iberal. Now you ask youre selves isnt that a oxymoron ya kanuckle head? In terms of pollitcal society of stiff right and left wing mentality yes, but I do not follow the straight and narrow you might say. My beleifs stem from my conservative up bringing but at the same time being a veteran of twelve yars in the military has brought a new batch of colors in my life. I beleive that the constitutiobn should be upheld in its bassic roots, not what I want from it. I cant say I want freedom of speech and not grant others there freedom of oppinion, its is there beleifs even though I may regret latter in allowing them to speack depending on how rude they are about it. Nor can I sit here with a clear clean concious and say that only a select few should be able to own a firearm. The second ammendment much to the dismay of many socialist is what has kepted this country as a country, now you may choose to never ever touch a firearm even a BB gun but me I love firearms, although my taste is classic black powder.
The constitution in my view is the most substantial of all the roots of this country, and neither a pollitical coup nor a socialistic agenda will ever destroy it much to the dismay of many comunists, socialist and out and out loons out there who for some reason dispise this country with all there might, and it is sad to say that many of these people are in the power seat of pollitics.
So it comes to the part in my blog that is the tastiest, hence the topping on my cake so to speck. Earlier this week a incident happened in Little Rock Arkansas that touched me in many ways. One being the most frightening is the fact that we have Americans who feel that because they dont agree that soldiers are over in Iraq and Afghanistan and doing there job in bringing peace and freedom to opressed cultures that they have a right to go out and shoot men and woman in uniform and feel because the are moslem that they, which I have no doubt, have a right to get away with it
