The Other One

An hour and ten minutes later, Cordelia and William walked into the Bosendorfer Lounge. Easy jazz music was being played on the Imperial Grand Bosendorfer piano and the room was dimly lit, perfect for a nice intimate evening. The bar was situated in the rear of the room where many patrons were huddled talking and enjoying their drinks. The two of them sat at a little table off the bar where a cocktail waitress greeted them. They ordered two drinks; a Tanqueray and tonic for William and a Mojito for Cordelia. The waitress returned a moment later with their drinks. William thanked her and paid the bill. They sat there sipping their drinks for a moment until Cordelia spoke.
"I have to tell you something William. Something strange happened to me when I got home this afternoon. I came home and there was someone inside my house."
William sat patiently, trying to mask his apprehension. It didn't work. He took another sip of his drink and placed it on the table. Finally he spoke.
"Is everything okay, was anything taken?"
"No, no, he wasn't a burglar, just some guy. He was a little weird but everything is okay. He seemed to know me, but I don't know from where. I would remember a guy like him. He said his name was Occam. Does that sound familiar to you?"
William thought for a moment, sipping his drink again.
"Doesn't ring a bell, what did he look like?"
"He was kinda tall, brown hair and pale, but it was his eyes that I remember so vividly. They were this piercing blue. Beautiful, but eerie."
"Did he say what he wanted?"
"He said he had some information for me and that he knows about my… abilities, as he put it."
"You mean your visions?"
"Yeah and he said that there was someone watching me, but it wasn't him. Well, wasn't JUST him."
"Sounds like some jerk trying to scare you a little. You said he came to give you some information, what did he say?"
"Not much, just I was being watched. Oh, and he gave me this."
Cordelia reached out her hand and opened it to reveal a silver ring. She handed it to William. William studied it for a moment then put it on his right ring finger. Instantly he began getting flashes of images and strange, jumbled music. He could hear the music as if it were being played in the lounge and not jazz. He didn't know what it was but it almost sounded like nursery rhymes. He was getting lost in the melodies, thinking of all the rhymes he knew from his childhood.
After a minute, they stopped and turned into something else, something far more sinister. He heard screams as they echoed in his head. Torture was all he could think of. Women, children, and men all wanting it to end. They begged and pleaded for death. As far as William could tell, their cries were never silenced, their pain never ended. He looked around the lounge and could see men and women bleeding. There were lots of them in different positions. People tied to torture devices. People standing, holding themselves where they had been maimed. One woman was bent over in the corner holding her insides. Blood poured down her hands and arms as she futilely tried to stop her guts from spilling out of the gaping hole in her torso.
Then he saw him. A man dressed in a dark suit with black hair. His skin was pale and his eyes were dark. It was hard to see him but he could definitely see the look he had on his face. His face looked contemptuous but at the same time, he was thoroughly enjoying what he was doing.
He snatched the ring off his finger and put it on the table roughly. A couple sitting next to them heard the bang and glanced over to them, wondering what the commotion was.
William grabbed his drink and downed it in one gulp. Cordelia was watching him, stunned.
"What's wrong, you're all red."
His face was flushed and sweat began running down his temples. He was unnerved alright. He stood up abruptly, grabbing Cordelia's hand. They walked out of the lounge and into the cool air.
"I needed to get out of there, it felt like the walls were closing in on me."
Cordelia reached over and put her arm around William, bringing him closer. He leaned into her, feeling much better.
"That ring made me see things." He said after a long moment.
They were walking through Thornton Park, past coffee shops and boutiques until they reached a bench on the edge of Lake Eola. They sat down before William continued.
"One minute I'm in the lounge hearing the piano, and the next I'm hearing nursery rhymes. That part was okay, but then it shifted to a different scene completely. I looked around the lounge and saw people screaming and bleeding everywhere. They were being tortured by this man in a black suit. I don't think it was your visitor, this guy looked scary and he had black hair and dark eyes, at least, from what I could tell."
