The Object of Circumcision—Some simple thoughts
June 22nd 2010 11:24
This is not in approval or disapproval of circumcision. I have two sons. One was circumcised, the other is not. Whether you value circumcision or not, there is one thought which I suspect many of you have not considered. When to circumcise the lad!
As to whether your want to have him circumcised, you can choose for yourself. As for me, I would not circumcise a son now. That is something we did not consider several years ago when our first son was born. As for me, I would not want the circumcision for myself, and I NOW prefer to have a son uncircumcised.
The real question of this short blog article is when to have the circumcision done. According to the message to Abraham, the father of circumcision, a boy was to become circumcised at the age of 8 days old. Jesus, our Lord, also was circumcised at the eighth day of his earthly life. Of course, Abraham was well beyond the eight day for his own circumcision. He was 99 years of age when he was circumcised. However, any new boys born after Abraham’s circumcision would have been circumcised on the eighth day of their new life.
One question is when to have a boy circumcised. At the time of Abraham’s circumcision, his son Ishmael was also circumcised. At the time, he was 13 years old. That was the age at which he heard about circumcision and underwent the process. If he had been at age eight days, he would have been circumcised then. However, Abrahamic message had not yet begun. So Ishmael now is being circumcised at age 13.
The real question here is when to have circumcision done. There are people in the world, various other nations, where circumcision is very much an ideal. There are people on Earth who want any suiter for their daughters to be sure they have been circumcised. However, some of those people want their sons to be circumcised at around age 11 to 13 years of age. This seems to be against the Abrahamic message to have it done at age 8 days.
Do you know anything about Ishmael? He was the father of Arab nations, not of the Jews. Is Ishmael the pattern for Jewish Christians or is Isaac, Abraham’s rightful son a better pattern. Should Ishmael be the pattern for non-Jewish boys? The rightful son of Christian parents should be circumcised at 8 days old, not the 13 year old non-Jewish nation. Those nations who value circumcision at 11 to 13 years of age are seemingly setting up boys to become non-Christian men.
