Political Quagmire - Freedom is not Free!

The North Korean Mystery

January 29th 2013 19:41
Labeled part of former President Bush’s Axis of Evil, North Korea has been an isolated country for decades. The DMZ is probably the most dangerous strip of land in East Asia with long time rivals staring each other down waiting to see who makes a wrong decision. It’s like an exciting match of chess anticipating the opponent’s next move, which could have catastrophic repercussions. The totalitarian state treats its new young ruler Kim Jong Un as a higher deity and its citizens are cut off from the rest of the global community. During the recent Women’s World Cup members of the North Korean squad looked in amazement as they saw the cell phones and other portable devices from Westerners for the first time in their lives! The exploited people of North Korea go starving as the hostile military regime uses all its valuable resources to provoke the U.S., South Korea and its allies. If they’re any positives coming out of the state’s propaganda media it might be signs they want to advance their anemic economy. Google’s CEO Eric Schmidt amazingly ventured to Pyonyang, which is really unprecedented as foreigners are hardly ever permitted to step on North Korea soil. If North Korea actually attempts to incorporate modern technologies then perhaps through much diplomacy they could enter the international trade market.
As far as Foreign Policy/National Security is concerned North Korea remains defiant against the U.N Security Council. The recent successful rocket launch and reckless nuclear ambitions is causing a huge uproar that affects all nations in the region. It’s highly assumed that North Korea already possesses several nuclear devices and could be developing more. They claim the weapons are for the defense of their Great Nation against the U.S. military juggernaut posing a threat. The reality is North Korea has publicly stated to be targeting U.S. post and territories but that remains to be seen.

“One morning, just like 9/11, there’s going to be a disaster. I have yet to see the United Nations do anything effective with either Iran or North Korea” ~ Newt Gingrich

It seems time and time again the United Nations has made sanctions on North Korea but the chaotic state seems determined on its nuclear program. North Korea is like a wounded animal huddled in a corner as long as you leave it along it should be fine but attack it and there will be a violent reaction. Americans have to understand this situation is not Iraq or even Afghanistan for that matter and engaging this state militarily could end in disaster. Saddam Hussein’s regime was mild compared to what the North Koreans are capable of so we need to take caution. China uses North Korea for economic purposes and would come to their allies aid in a conflict. That scenario has to be avoided at all costs as it could lead to World War III! I do feel we have a superior force but if the war went Nuclear the casualties and environmental damage would be too much to bear for any nation on Earth. All of the films involving post-Apocalyptic futures Mad Max, The Book of Eli, Doomsday The Road all could be reality but that is only in the worst-case scenario. The best thing the U.S. can do is create dialogue with North Korea and perhaps give the struggling nation food/supplies aid. We need to show compassion and humility because at the end of the day the people of North Korea are not our enemy! The North Korea regime/military is our real enemy while their people would do anything to escape their atrocities. Many North Koreans are simply too afraid to speak out against their government structure as they would surely see torture and/or death to themselves or their family. In these uncertain times we need patience and pray the new North Korean leader is concerned with helping his people then destroying them.

“In time, all of Korea will be united in Liberty” ~Richard Perle
North Korea continues to increase its arms!
