so....43pts is an off night?

: shame hahaha
Before the Lakers took the STAPLES Center floor on Sunday night to face the Golden State Warriors, one could feel the anticipation ... online. (Could you imagine what it was like at STAPLES?)

We had no fewer than four IM conversations going at once, all of them centered around one question: Do you think he'll get it? Do you think he'll get 50 for the fifth consecutive game

Bring back the Kobe-Jordan comparisons

: jus read on...
If those old Kobe Bryant comparisons to Michael Jordan were too numerous and premature, perhaps this is the point in Bryant’s career when the discussions should resume in earnestness.

Bryant scored at least 50 points for the fourth consecutive game Friday night, a feat Jordan did not accomplish, to lead the Lakers to victory for the fourth consecutive game as they defeated the New Orleans Hornets, 111-106

Lakers need Kobe's Arrogance

: couldn't have said it any better
Mychal Thompson isn't about to compare this Laker team with the squads he played on. Kobe Bryant is probably the only current Laker who could have started on the 1987 and 1988 championship squads on which Thompson played.

But while the talent gap is huge, Thompson, now a Lakers broadcaster, sees no reason why this current squad can't learn something about mental approach and work ethic from its more illustrious predecessors

Kobe Tops Jersey sales list

: not Yao?
Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers has taken over as the top selling NBA jersey in China. Bryant, who also has the top selling jersey in the U.S. this year, was ranked fourth last season in China.

Bryant is followed by Denver Nuggets guard Allen Iverson and Houston Rockets guard Tracy McGrady, who visited China this summer with adidas. Rounding out the top five is Dwyane Wade of the Miami Heat and LeBron James of the Cleveland Cavaliers, both of whom also visited China this past summer as part of USA Basketball’s Senior National Team training. China’s Yao Ming, from the Houston Rockets, ranks sixth on the list, down from third last year

Inside the Numbers

: kobe kobe kobe
March 19 -- Lakers guard Kobe Bryant went off for 65 points in a win against the Blazers on Friday and followed that up with a 50-point effort Sunday against the Timberwolves. Inside the Numbers takes a look at some of Kobe's accomplishments.
18,000 Kobe is the youngest player to top this point milestone, reaching it in 28 years and 156 days, which is 10 fewer days than it took Wilt Chamberlain to accomplish this feat.

Kobe's 65

: why doesn't it surprise me anymore?
Just when you thought it was safe to write off the Lakers, Kobe goes out and puts up a thoroughly dominant 65-point performance Friday against the Trail Blazers in a 116-111 overtime win, and everything changes.
It takes an outing like that from Mamba, a nickname Bryant gave himself after the largest venomous snake in Africa, to fear a team that still has injuries to key contributors (Luke Walton, Brian Cook, Vladimir Radmanovic) and, before the Portland game, had dropped 13 out of its last 16 games.
