Ribs As Weapons

August 22nd 2009 15:36
The Spanish ribbed newt has a strange way of defending itself. When threatened or agitated, this bizarre newt uses its ribs as weapons. The newt actually pushes the ribs through the body and they are then coated with a poisonous substance. This is quite a unique defense mechanism that the newt has adapted. It seems to be effective in its purpose.

Most Scenic US National Parks

August 22nd 2009 15:01
If you're a scenic buff like myself, I'll bet you've taken the beaten path many times before. Instead of hurrying down the Interstate, you tend to take the slower back roads that are bursting with scenery. In my case it would be the Adirondack Mountains where the scenery is breathtaking.

Now let's look at the 10 most scenic National Parks in the US. Someday I hope to visit one, but for now the photography is awesome!

Frogs and Sex

August 22nd 2009 14:28
If there is something going wrong in nature, the first one we blame is a human. Man destroys the environment and nature suffers. It seems that in today's mishap caused by humans, we are responsible for ruining the sex lives of frogs.

Why you ask? Because the noise from heavy traffic interferes with the males' mating calls. This is why, according to the study, frog populations are declining. My guess is that with more traffic than ever, frogs are being run over like never before!

I have to question this study because most animals have other ways of attracting mates and marking territories. With an instinct as powerful as mating, I believe that animals will evolve and adapt to suit their needs. The declining numbers may be due in part to traffic but there must be other factors involved.

Bee Population Threat in Europe

August 21st 2009 17:19
In an ongoing research over the declining bee populations of the world, a new uninvited guest arrives. Just like I had a hypothesis about killer bee involvement in the decline, France faces an invasive natural born bee-killer. Meet the Chinese Hornet, whose colonies are spreading like wild fire. They might not be the main reason for bees declining, but it won't help the situation.

Natural Close Encounter

Nothing can actually compare or prepare you for an encounter with a whale. Here's a diver's encounter with a humpback! The pictures are extraordinary.

Bird Brain

August 7th 2009 23:10
Sometimes we think that animals are so defenseless that they could never survive without the human race helping them. We forget that animals adopt to their ever changing environment no matter what the situation. Ducks know to come and call the humans to save their ducklings stuck in a well or on a roof. Yet mother ducks know how to save their own ducklings when needed. People are just suckers!

Remember the Aesop's fable about 'The Crow and The Pitcher' where a thirsty crow uses stones to raise the level of the water to quench its thirst? The fable may actually be fact according to an experiment

Blaming The USA

August 7th 2009 18:26
India and China are telling the global warming alarmists to buzz-off. According to them this is America's fault. India and China don't seem to care about climate change and aren't going to do anything about it.

Still the alarmist continue their speeches of doom and gloom on the horizon. Here's an article everybody should become familiar with. One of the best part is

Save The Rainforest BS

August 6th 2009 22:37
In the land of the Rainforest there is an urgency to save the Rainforest. Brazil is urging people to pee in the shower to save water. The irony is that it will take more water to prevent the smell and diseases that peeing in the shower would result in.

If the Brazilians want to save the rainforest, they should consider the obvious rather than the pipe dream. Stop cutting the forests down for development!! Continue to pee in the toilet where urine goes to a sewer treatment plant...at least I hope it does

The Downside of Eco-Wars

August 5th 2009 22:08
Now the eco-environmental-warriors are shooting blanks for their lost cause of replacing shrubs and weeds with flowers. Enter the Swamp thing 2009 and the Misses! Yes the eco-warriors are getting their priorities straight as flowers trump shrubs.

Getting dressed up as a shrub and baking eco-cookies are a must for today's environmental too-much-time-on-our-hands warriors. The civil plant wars may prove the need for super predator carnivores to equalize the playing feel

I prefer the cold. Now I know why!

It seems that males prefer the cooler while females prefer the warmer.

Hamster Wheel Ritual

August 3rd 2009 22:53
In life we tend to become hamsters on their wheels as we go through our daily routines in life that go nowhere. We become comfortable in our routines as we actually watch our lives go by. Yes, this is one of those soapbox moments that has one saying deja vu in a weird way!

What happens when Christians decide to publicly boycott a movie or something? Why sales skyrocket, of course! The same is true for all aspects of life
