The Natural Order - June 2009

NASA's Dead Sea Scrolls

June 29th 2009 23:17
Whether you believe in the original moon landing in 1969 or not, NASA has found its lost tapes in Australia. They can go either way. Prove a fact or fuel a conspiracy, you decide!

Did we really land on the moon or was the whole thing made in somebody's basement? I think when there is a finding 40 years later it will fuel the conspiracy theorists!

Frog Mystery Solved Again

June 26th 2009 21:38
I know that I wrote about the frog deformities before, but alas that was years ago and I'm not going to look for it. It was determined that some causes were parasites, pollution and UV rays. Still it seemed that something might have been overlooked. Perhaps some natural cause that has been around for many years!

The natural dragonfly's nymph may be the culprit. Even though the nymph's predatory habits may have been determined as the cause, it goes without saying that new theories could pop up again as research is ever changing.

Why did I rule out UV and global warming as a culprit? Reptiles and amphibians can adapt and thermal-regulate to their surroundings. They can basically find warmth and cool spots as they need to regulate their body temperature for digesting food and not overheating. I would have considered pollution or insecticides and maybe even the introduction of a foreign parasite in my own theories.

While we are on a global warming topic, let me repeat what I have stated before. I was aware of the temperature rising back in the 70s and 80s when I saw the Five-lined skink advancing farther north.

New Atheism and Its True Colors

June 26th 2009 17:22
In our multicultural societies today we are all educated about tolerance. It seems that intolerance and racism are still showing its ugly head among us. It is also getting out of control, in that not submitting to ones point of view is considered intolerance. Hypocrisy is a strong force in the reversal of racism in out 'tolerant' society.

I do not push my beliefs on others and I appreciate the same consideration. If I believe in God, for instance, I am not tolerated by the Atheists. They will argue that religion is the cause of societies' problems today. Perhaps they are right, but what they neglect to say is that one can believe in God and not be part of any religious group. They become intolerant because I don't believe in their beliefs...remember that last line because it applies to anybody in any group or belief.

Some don't believe in God, and that is fine. But why should you not tolerate because I do? Many intolerant groups are making themselves look like the victim against those who don't agree with them, or their cause, or their agenda.

Most of us live in a Free Country and combined with the freewill given by God, or nature, we are running know-it-alls. Just like Orwell's Animal Farm where all united to fight the common enemy, then some became the enemy, that's how most function. Once through ignorance the masses persecuted the 'different', now the 'different' through knowledge persecute the masses that once persecuted them!

If all this diatribe seems like pure dribble to you, I respect your opinion, even though I don't agree. Tolerance and racism is a two-way street.

Who's intolerant?...this is a great example...
Me because I totally disagree with Peta and their beliefs, but continue to go on with my life and let them continue to spew their foolishness?
OR
Peta who totally disagrees with my beliefs and wants me to conform to theirs?

If you don't want to believe in God, or nature, or anything above the senses, that's fine with me. Tolerance like respect has to be earned. You can't hold me responsible for what my beliefs, ancestors, people, neighborhood, city, county, state, country, hemisphere, or planet did to you or your great, great, great grandfather!

Monkey Business

June 25th 2009 18:03
This is a humorous look at the things many wish they could do and get away with it, but would be arrested or beheaded if they did it. Animals can't be held accountable for their actions because they are, well duh, animals!

What do you think would happen if you urinated on Zambia's President? Not to worry because a monkey has you covered, sort of speak. Right during a press conference gives this story a bonus

Preparing For An Invasion

June 25th 2009 16:12
Most know my stance about non-native invasive species. I seen a program about various invasive and annoying species of animals on Nature on PBS. Interesting the havok and dangers they are causing.

Today's invasive species is the Burmese python that may have established itself in Florida, after Hurricane Andrew, and are starting to migrate north. South Carolina wants to know if they can survive their climate so they released 7 of them to see

If you think that I don't believe in UFOs, you are mistaking. I seen one as a child. A typical blimp shaped metallic object that was so close you could see the porthole-like windows around it. It was moving at a slow pace and eventually our view was obstructed by the tall houses in my neighborhood. Ironically, I had viewed the movie The Day the Earth Stood Still, a couple of weeks prior. Was it my imagination? No because a bunch of my friends had seen it, too!

You can believe that story or just say "Su-u-ure you did!" As I grew older, I loved watching the heavens at night. I found that if you looked enough, you would see moving objects. Possibly meteors or other celestial objects. So I believe in Objects that are Flying in the air that remain Unidentified

Robo-Ferret

June 22nd 2009 23:25
It seems that technology is still moving in the right direction. A robotic ferret can detect all sorts of illegal contraband. The ferret can detect drugs, weapons, explosives, and illegal immigrants.

It screens cargo and will be used at airports and seaports. It's a three year project that began in 2008.

WTF!

June 22nd 2009 21:08
Apparently NASA is planning a moon bombing of some sort, and there are already those yelling foul. Why you ask? Because it violates some law that protects extraterrestrial civilizations that reside there! Apparently Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin discovered these extraterrestrials that reside there.

So why are we even trying to go to Mars and outer space to search for life? I laugh at the UN that actually has a charter for extraterrestrials? Why didn't the astronauts bring back some visitors so they can be represented by something that isn't a fairy tale

For Crying Out Loud

June 19th 2009 22:42
Remember when people would call the firemen because a cat was stuck in a tree? Although it was a waste of resources, because cats eventually come down on their own, it was always a feel good story. Sometimes it even made the news.

Well, imagine calling the firemen because a bird is stuck in a tree. A peacock stuck in a tree should stay there. Even if it is upside down. A dumb bird will eventually become prey to an animal eventually

To prove that it's a slow news day in Seattle, meet its 'sexiest' trees.

If nothing else it shows that some people need to get a life or go live in a forest!

Invaders

June 19th 2009 16:01
I've written many times about invasive species and the damage they really can do on the environment. So what's one more?

Meet the Australian spotted jellyfish. The name implies that it is a long way from its natural habitat if it is found in Florida. They seem to consume large amounts of fish eggs and microzooplankton from bodies of water

2010-Uganda's Crowded Jails

In a recent post, I talked about the plastic bag dilemma. Well, Uganda is ready to jail or fine any person who uses a plastic bag in 2010.

Do You Feel The Pain...of FISH?

June 14th 2009 18:13
If one has ever had reason to lose their sanity, this would be a good time to do so. In a new I-don't-give-a-crap study, my tax dollars helped fund the fish MAY feel pain as much as humans study!

So if you like to fish you might have a visit from the Petards and the other animal loving, vegetarian freaks. A great article about the whole thing is here

You Didn't See This Coming???

June 11th 2009 22:49
I guess that the opposite of evolving is regressing. Who evolved and who regressed in this story isn't rocket science.

In the live and let live mentality, the opposing team may not agree and are prone to the live and let die mentality! If you don't bother them, they may still see you as a threat when you're not

Timmy's In The Well...again!

June 11th 2009 00:10
Tell me that this isn't deja vu. Ducklings trapped in a well, and the parents waiting for humans to save them! I guess I really am wrong when I say that humans are suckers.

Even if you disagree with me, I hope you enjoy the photos and story!

Environmentalist Dilemma

June 10th 2009 23:15
The UN wants us to ban something again because they perceive an environmental threat. Plastic bags are an allege threat to ocean life that will consume them and make its way up to the food chain of man. Probably not a problem with Peta, but they would have a problem with the dying fish!

So if plastic bags are that bad, how did they get in the oceans? If they are such a threat to the environment, how do you get rid of the trillions that currently are circulating on the planet? Plastic bags are easy to carry things like groceries. As the American Chemistry Council(another way of probably saying The Plastic Company) said in the article

El Nino

June 10th 2009 20:42
Water temperatures are warming in the Pacific according to NOAA. We've had these conditions before and is a climate phenomenon called El Nino. So before everybody jumps on the global warming bandwagon, as we all know you will, remember that this has occurred before.

If this is truly an El Nino year, given my experience from others, it should be warmer and have less snowfall in my area this winter. These are only the initial findings and statistics so keep that in mind. Either way, well, you know my thoughts on gw!

Flipper the Freeloader

June 9th 2009 20:57
When I hear arguments about how it is humans that are harming and destroying the environment, I often think in which way it is meant. People might think it is because we cause global warming(relax, it's not about this), we drill for oil, we hunt the animals, we cut forests, etc., you get the point.

I've argued this before that the way we are destroying and harming the environment, and endangering our lives in the process, by feeding wild animals. We are feeding them people food and drawing them close to our homes. They are basically turning lazy and obese. They are turning into beggars and thieves that are very resourceful. I know a campground on a lake where the seagulls will steal your food from the grill if you let them

Ice Age...The Beginning!

June 9th 2009 00:43
Since my last entry about summer, otherwise known as global warming, it seems that we might be in for a bit of cooling. With all the hype about a man-made phenomena, we must now look at who brought winter back in some parts. Western ND has had a snowfall in June. In some parts it's the first time in 60 years.

I believe in many weather changes and extremes that have occurred and will occur. I don't believe man can control the weather any more than I believe man can control hurricanes, tornadoes, storms, earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanoes, blizzards, or even the sunshine. Man hasn't been able to predict the weather with accuracy, and we seem to fail to realize that it is nature that is calling the shots.

Global Warming...The End!

June 6th 2009 21:36
I really believe that this will not be the end of the global warming debate, but I want to draw your attention to the various views on topics of concern. A NASA study shows that the sun is responsible for earth's warming.. NASA has also said that it is humanity's fault.

Imagine that? Some thought man was the cause, and others thought natural disasters. It was the sun all along

Survival 102

June 6th 2009 14:37
After reading an article in Forbes about How to forage for springtime food in the Catskills of New York, it occurred to me that I need to learn more about this and other forms of survival. I didn't know that cattails were edible and most of the other foods I never even heard of. This article is great because, although they look for wild delicacies, it can teach us how to live off the land.

If your like me and don't know what wild plants, other than dandelions, are edible, you should definitely invest in a Field Guide for your area and beyond. You need to know what is edible and what is deadly. You can also find tips at the Wildman's site

Rise and Fall of Alcohol

June 5th 2009 22:48
I never liked Ripple, Zima, or even Billy beer. That just so we know where I'm coming from. But in today's bar world, I can't understand the sudden popularity of Jager-bombs. Jagermeister was probably never meant to be mixed with anything. But having been a mixologist, nothing really surprises me.

Here are some beverages that rose and fell.

BULL!

June 2nd 2009 23:45
This is why I believe warming is BULL! We had a frost on June 1 in my area but we claim that summer is going to be hot this year. This due to guess what? Global warming of course!

I haven't turned on my air conditioner yet. But global warming is killing us based on man-made global warming. This according to the scientific minds of today's gw debate that will cost us in the long run!

Blame It On GW...Again!

June 2nd 2009 22:13
Years ago there was an issue about the disappearing coral reefs. Well like anything else these days, blame it on global warming!

I would have guessed red tide, that has been a long time foe for ocean life, but what do I know? Red tide has been around long before I ever heard of gw!

Nature Resourceful

June 2nd 2009 21:48
Nature does not need man's help to survive and here is the proof. What nature lacks that humans put in are their 'feelings'. Instincts are what help a species survive.

Still we must consider that our feelings are more powerful than an animal's survival instinct. We destroy their environment and they survive, but it is humans that are vocal about the environment and species survival.

Why Is Everybody Picking On NYC?

June 1st 2009 22:47
Will NYC be affected by a hurricane? Suddenly New York CITY needs hurricane barriers. This will cost the taxpayers of New York STATE!

The fact that this disaster is in a location that isn't prone to these disasters should make one wonder about many natural orders!
