My Generation
December 25th 2008 19:19
To most I would be considered a baby boomer, but somehow I never felt like I fit into that group. I missed out on a lot of the problems they caused but yet am associated with them. I wasn't part of any of their protests or any of their revolutions. More so than an actual baby boomer I was a late-bloomer that grew up in their shadows. I was just a number at the tail end of that generation.
We are about to redefine my generation and it may be largely due to President-elect Obama who was born in 1961. Meet the 'cuspers' or those born between 1954-1965!
This is my generation and my true identity. Being a 'baby boomer' made me feel like someone stuck in another person's body. I felt like I had to follow in someone's shoes that were impossible to fill because we did not share ideologies. This is something that needed to be said because not all baby boomers were involved in all the boomer fun. I was too young for Woodstock, riots, peace, Vietnam, Howdy Doody, summer of love, etc.
I can't explain how it feels to find my true identity when it comes to the generation gap. It almost feels like finally being able explain the out-of-place feeling when it came to my generation. Still I do feel a connection to the boomers.
I remember them but I was too young to participate. So don't blame me!
