The Natural Order - March 2008

The World Will End In May

March 30th 2008 16:13
Doomsday cults will come and go, but the world continues to live on. These dangerous final-days-movements tend to not have a happy ending. This shows how easily some can be brainwashed into believing a dangerous ideology.

Survival 101

March 27th 2008 23:30
If there is ever a holocaust and food is scarce and people are dying, then I would consider Dumpster Diving! Otherwise just let the bums do it.

I will say that there are many treasures in the trash that is discarded. You need to know the higher class suburbs or neighborhoods and go visit them a day before garbage day. If you want food, stick to the restaurant dumpsters. The better area the better the discarded food.

No Proof...

March 27th 2008 20:43
Consider this: The employees at the business said with high fences, no holes in the yard and no outside access, there is only one explanation -- one of the hawks in the area carried the dog off.

This story has too many holes in it. A dog is missing and the only explanation is a hawk abduction? Please...the dog would have been yelping bloody murder. This story is full of holes and what fries me is that the owner accepts the doggie-care owner's explanation.

Good thing it wasn't my dog!

The Bulb That Died

March 27th 2008 18:26
Seems like there are many people jumping on the energy-efficient bulb issue. It should come as no shock. This bill is aimed more at the freedom of choice than the mercury issue. I totally agree with the freedom of choice part, seeing that as I have stated the energy bulbs cost more than the regular.

Still we, in the United States, are on this toxic metal kick that keeps appearing in everything from toys to food. Mercury is the culprit this time. Usually it is lead. We might have to think this lightbulb thing a bit more than usual. We already have mercury in our households. A thermometer to take our temperatures...that we put in our mouths...contains mercury. Although one never comes close to the mercury, what if a child broke a thermometer and was exposed to mercury? Mercury looks like tiny balls that move about quickly. It is extremely toxic.

To repeat my stance on Global Warming(yes, here we go again!):
1. I believe gw exists.
2. I believe man's effect is minimal

There Is Trouble In The Forest

March 25th 2008 22:54
Rush predicted it in the song The Trees! Well they said that there is unrest in the forest and that's all we need. The tropical rainforest is truly in trouble due to an uninvited guest. If you think that it is man, well guess again.

I may have noted it elsewhere that invasive species are a real threat to the environment. My main topics may have been about the fauna. But flora can be a bigger problem

Animal Planet Goes Greenpeace

March 24th 2008 23:02
Animal Planet plans to cover activists interfering with Japanese whale ships in the Antartica. They do this with pranks, confrontations and terrorist tactics. They believe they are doing the right thing but most see it as a worthless cause that interferes with a Japanese industry. They never think about the job losses if the Japanese whaling industry is shut down. Small price for collateral damage. I may not agree with whaling, but this is the wrong way to go about it. Some people are doing their jobs and following orders.

The organization may not be Greenpeace but they employ the same type of tactics. They put animal life above human(including their own) life, and that isn't a good thing. If whaling is to be stopped, then pressure should be put on the government by the worldwide community rather than a few terrorists

Apocalypse 2040

March 24th 2008 18:02
Here is what the earth will be like in 2040 due to global warming. There is nothing we can do about it claims the author. Yet another view of what is to come, and sadly I don't think he is all wrong.

A bit of humor if you scroll to the picture of flooded London. Rising sea levels will threaten central London by 2004! I think they mean 2040.

Discovery

March 22nd 2008 16:44
I'm always fascinated when man finds new species of animals. The thing of it is that these animals have always been here but we never knew it. To this day they are still discovering various species of animals on the island of Madagascar. I have this theory that secretive species have a knack to avoid man. I also want to point out that although the world seems smaller today, there are still unexplored and uncharted lands and waters.

Meet our latest discoveries!

Many communities are working to switch to 'green' power. They do this to replace our dependency on oil and other costly fuels. The common solutions are things such as solar and wind powered energy. Like anything else, it will take time to see if such 'green' solutions are a good solution or will end up costing you in the long run.

My opinion is that they may work, but need to have certain tweeks ironed out. They also may work in one area and not another. The bottom line is what it will cost the consumer for these alternatives and will they be as efficient as their replacements. The arguments can rage on for years

Summer Returns

March 20th 2008 19:20
It's almost summer so guess what the topic is about? Although we had an icy start, global warming will soon rear it's ugly head. So get ready to get blamed for it and do your part to rectify it.

Me? I'll just enjoy a hot summer at the beach or in an air conditioned building!

If you don't know by now, most environmentalists' solution cause more damage to the environment. Replacing the light bulb with compact flourescent bulbs was a disaster from the start.

First they tried to force many States to switch to this energy saving light. Hopefully the scorned governor of New York's policy to switch the entire State within a year will blow over
