The Natural Order - by signals

Banjo the Dinosaur

July 3rd 2009 23:18
Science must be running out of names for new found species, so they are using names that resemble Michael Jackson son, Blanket. Three new dinosaurs are found in Australia. One was a meat-eater and the others were plant-eaters. Go figure how the plant-eaters look like a Brontosaur. They have been nicknamed Matilda and Clancy.

The meat-eater is Australia's answer to a Velociraptor and has been nicknamed Banjo! It was light and agile and the cheetah of its time, because it could outrun its prey. Like most carnivores of the time, Banjo was ferocious and terrifying.

Lethal Weapons Among Us

July 3rd 2009 18:39
Years ago I was a reptile enthusiast. I mostly kept lizards with an occasional snake. I left the trade when I started seeing how people with no knowledge were keeping dangerous animals. Iguanas, boas, pythons, tegus, monitor lizards, poisonous snakes and lizards, and the list goes on. I've also seen some people's incompetence result in escapes and disasters. Somebody's pet was eaten by a python, for example.

Burmese pythons and other jungle snakes should never be kept as pets, in my opinion. I still think this will end in disaster. Snakes are great escape artists, and are silent when they escape. They hunt by detecting the heat(warm blooded) of their prey, along with their tongue that processes air particles in a grove above the mouth called a Jacobson's organ.

Reptiles in captivity should be displayed more so than handled. They never really tame and can regress to their wild behavior at any time. Their enclosures should be secure and escape proof.

In a tragic event, a 2 year-old is killed by a pet python. My opinion is that the owner of the python wasn't very skilled at keeping reptiles, let alone a dangerous reptile.

From the article:
Darnell, who lives at the home with the girl and her mother, told officers that just after midnight Wednesday he found the eight-and-a-half foot snake out of its glass case. He put it in a bag and returned it to the enclosure. When he awoke in the morning, he discovered that the snake was again out of its case.

I had a harmless and rather tame lizard escape from its enclosure. I put it back and observed it. Sure enough since I hadn't secured the point of escape in the enclosure, the lizard went back to it and got out again. This is why I observed it. Because I didn't know how it got out and I knew it would go back. Darnell should have observed the snake since he didn't find HOW it got out the first time.

From the article:
Geoghegan said Shaiunna played with the python all the time and the snake had never been aggressive toward her.

Darnell reportedly also owns a boa constrictor that was in a different container. The reptiles were considered family pets.

Considering a giant snake a family pet is a danger in itself. Once again, reptiles should be displayed more than handled. They let the toddler play with the snake. Do they know that reptiles have bacteria and can spread disease, especially to a child that puts her hands in her mouth. After handling any reptile, you should wash the areas that came in contact with it, immediately.

From the article:
According to the 2008 edition of "Florida Captive Wildlife Regulations," a python must be kept in a cage or glass case made of at least quarter-inch break-resistant glass. The enclosure must be secured by a lock.

Investigators say the aquarium taken from the child's home was about six feet long and three feet deep and open at the top, but it wasn't immediately clear to them whether the case had a lid.

If the aquarium wasn't busted or cracked, the escape was with the lid or whatever he used to cover the aquarium. I doubt it had a lock or was secure.

Day of the Dolphins

July 2nd 2009 15:02
New York City might be under attack by aqua-invaders. The invaders are non other than dolphins! There are an estimated 200 of them in Long Island Sound.

They have split in two different groups and moved near the Bronx and Bayville, Long Island. The president of the Marine Research and Preservation has said this is normal behavior. Maybe we should believe him.

On the other hand, if such behavior has never happened before, it might mean that we have a new 'wave' of moochers and freeloaders!

The Bees Are Back

July 1st 2009 20:57
Bees seem to be disappearing. Maybe because they are running away from home. Swarms are being reported in oddball places, and the numbers are astonishing. They seem to be taking a vacation away from their conventional hives and landing in cities, among other places.

Some experts think this is a good sign. They seem to be going back to nature. Read more

NASA's Dead Sea Scrolls

June 29th 2009 23:17
Whether you believe in the original moon landing in 1969 or not, NASA has found its lost tapes in Australia. They can go either way. Prove a fact or fuel a conspiracy, you decide!

Did we really land on the moon or was the whole thing made in somebody's basement? I think when there is a finding 40 years later it will fuel the conspiracy theorists!

Frog Mystery Solved Again

June 26th 2009 21:38
I know that I wrote about the frog deformities before, but alas that was years ago and I'm not going to look for it. It was determined that some causes were parasites, pollution and UV rays. Still it seemed that something might have been overlooked. Perhaps some natural cause that has been around for many years!

The natural dragonfly's nymph may be the culprit. Even though the nymph's predatory habits may have been determined as the cause, it goes without saying that new theories could pop up again as research is ever changing

New Atheism and Its True Colors

June 26th 2009 17:22
In our multicultural societies today we are all educated about tolerance. It seems that intolerance and racism are still showing its ugly head among us. It is also getting out of control, in that not submitting to ones point of view is considered intolerance. Hypocrisy is a strong force in the reversal of racism in out 'tolerant' society.

I do not push my beliefs on others and I appreciate the same consideration. If I believe in God, for instance, I am not tolerated by the Atheists. They will argue that religion is the cause of societies' problems today. Perhaps they are right, but what they neglect to say is that one can believe in God and not be part of any religious group. They become intolerant because I don't believe in their beliefs...remember that last line because it applies to anybody in any group or belief

Monkey Business

June 25th 2009 18:03
This is a humorous look at the things many wish they could do and get away with it, but would be arrested or beheaded if they did it. Animals can't be held accountable for their actions because they are, well duh, animals!

What do you think would happen if you urinated on Zambia's President? Not to worry because a monkey has you covered, sort of speak. Right during a press conference gives this story a bonus

Preparing For An Invasion

June 25th 2009 16:12
Most know my stance about non-native invasive species. I seen a program about various invasive and annoying species of animals on Nature on PBS. Interesting the havok and dangers they are causing.

Today's invasive species is the Burmese python that may have established itself in Florida, after Hurricane Andrew, and are starting to migrate north. South Carolina wants to know if they can survive their climate so they released 7 of them to see

If you think that I don't believe in UFOs, you are mistaking. I seen one as a child. A typical blimp shaped metallic object that was so close you could see the porthole-like windows around it. It was moving at a slow pace and eventually our view was obstructed by the tall houses in my neighborhood. Ironically, I had viewed the movie The Day the Earth Stood Still, a couple of weeks prior. Was it my imagination? No because a bunch of my friends had seen it, too!

You can believe that story or just say "Su-u-ure you did!" As I grew older, I loved watching the heavens at night. I found that if you looked enough, you would see moving objects. Possibly meteors or other celestial objects. So I believe in Objects that are Flying in the air that remain Unidentified
