It's getting hot in here!

June 9th 2011 19:35
TGITH - Thank Goodness it's thursday! The weekend is almost here. Yeah Baby!

Weather: High 90's
Mood: Happy, but hot!

I'm wearing Ava in my sleepy wrap and boy is she getting heavy! *phew* This is the only way I get to do my uninterrupted blogging.

I took Ava with me to run some errands this morning. On my way to some stores, I borrowed a few new cds at our library Gotta love it. (especially blasting them in my car lol)

My husband had half a day of work today. I wish we had something planned but we had to wait for FedEx to deliver our packages Oh well. Glad we stayed in the AC.

I tried looking for public or private non-chlorinated pools in our area. Do they even exist? I heard about them but where the heck are they? I'm dying to swim and I want Ava to learn how. She's already 9 months, gosh! I also heard about salt water pools but as usual... so hard to find! I don't want the summer to skip us by without being able to take a dip in a pool. We can also hit the beach or lake but still.. I love being able to see the blue floor and clear water in a pool.

I sold some items on eBay and amazon this week. Woohoo go me!! It's been pretty slow the past few weeks. Glad I made enough to pay my gas...can't complain.

It's almost 3:30pm, I'm watching "Secret Millionaire" on hulu. Every episode makes me cry. I'm a softie/sucker for happy endings. *Tear* If I was a millionaire... what would I do with my money and time? I'd probably do some volunteer work, donate to programs (first I'd have to find out where the money really goes), travel with my husband & daughter, buy a house, maybe buy a farm, build a non profit organization for each of my passions(they all have to do with helping people), and of course I'd spend a lot of time with family.

Questions for the day:
Where can I get a borrowed copy of "Latina's new bible" by Sandra Guzman? and "Married to Me: How Committing to Myself Led to Triumph After Divorce" by Dayanarra Torres ? My local library doesn't have either of them. What's up with that? Should I complain to someone? Grrr!

I think i'll make some home made address labels now. Till tomorrow my friends.... V =)

Home schooling

June 8th 2011 19:32
I may be jumping the gun but I'm going crazy gathering materials, state regulations, signing up to newsletters, and subscribing to blogs to learn how to start the home school process. I want to teach my daughter Ava in a few years. She's only 9 months old, now! I told my best friend about our wanting Ava to be home schooled. She was curious about and the more I got into it... she understood why and totally gave us her support. She did her own research and came across some great informative sites....thus adding fuel to my fire.

We have our reasons for wanting this for our daughter. The main reason is because I want to spend as much time as I can with Ava. There's not many hours in a day for "family time" especially if you work full time. Not to mention, I want to be the one to teach her, not only about curriculum, about life. It is my responsibility as a parent. We also don't agree with what and how schools are teaching children. *sigh* The list goes on..and on..

It's interesting to see how the media thinks of home schooling: "head down in a book, "the child is home all day long", "there is no social interaction." It's NOT like that at all!!! Think outside of the box, people. (I should talk. I used to think like this too, once upon a time.) We need to educate others out there. Open their minds.

I found this statement on homeschool.com regarding the social aspect of home schooling:

" What About Socialization?

If only homeschoolers had a nickel for every time they heard the question, "... but what about socialization?" That infamous socialization question, for any seasoned homeschooler, is quite a humorous one!

Although non-homeschoolers worry that homeschooling may turn children into social misfits, we know that the opposite is true and that POSITIVE socialization is one of the best reasons to homeschool your children.

"Socialization is actually meant to prepare children for the real world, which means learning to interact and deal with people of all ages, races, and backgrounds," says Diane Flynn Keith. "In this case, homeschooling actually does a better job of this because homeschoolers spend more actual time out in society."

Research supports this. According to Home Schooling and the Question of Socialization by Richard G. Medlin, "Home-schooled children are taking part in the daily routines of their communities. They are certainly not isolated; in fact, they associate with--and feel close to--all sorts of people."

__
I could not have said this better. I also read that schools and museums are opening their doors to home schoolers (some required by law). They are giving home schooled children equal opportunity to participate in their activities. Local co-ops are great for getting field trips, dances, workshops, and sport games together for homeschooling families.

There are many online support groups out there... I'm a member of 2 of them.

I noticed there were many different ways to home school. (ie: Classical education, Unschooling, Religious, Core knowledge/Traditional,) Then there's learning style (Auditory, Visual, Tactile, etc.) Holy Cow! There's lots to choose from! I think I'd be eclectic. I'd do a little bit of everything to see what works for Ava and myself. Make it my own!

On the curriculum; there's plenty of work books to choose from. Thanks to eBay, amazon and the groups I belong to.. I'd get them for a good bargain. I'd just have to see what gets the best reviews.

Phew!! I think i'll do some meditation now. *OHMMMMM** Note to self: I shall not get overwhelmed. There's literature out there that can help guide me in the right direction.

One more thing...I'm thinking about making my own home school planner. I saw many of them online that stay at home moms made from scratch. I love being organized so this would be a great tool for me. Oh and I can't forget to mention the "work box system" that I'm interested in. I could ramble on & on about home schooling ideas! I'm getting so excited yet anxious thinking about all of this and yes! I have years to prepare and perfect my plan. LOL.

Hasta Maņana..

My Passion

June 7th 2011 19:15
I'm listening to Shakira's new hit "Rabiosa". It's pretty catchy! It makes me want to dance. The video however, is not appropriate for children under 18. I just don't approve of her dancing on a pole practically naked. I wouldn't want my teen siblings watching that. I wish artists would think before making a video like that.

Anyway, it's 2:40pm on this lovely tuesday afternoon. My daughter just had her bottle. Now she's playing peacefully. Last night for dinner my husband made steak, peas & noodles. He's the cook of the house. It was pretty yummy =)

Here are some of the places where we get our healthy, delicious food from: Martindale's, The Family Cow(they do weekly drop points), Kimberton whole foods, and Hendricks farm.

So I came across this site helpusadopt.org. It's a non profit organization. I guess they make their money from donations. They give out grants to families who are looking to adopt. It's such an awesome site. I would love to create something like that. When I look at my daughter; Ava, all I can think about is how lucky I am to be her mother.

How can I make this happen for someone else? It's so hard to start from nothing. I'm of course am a stay at home mom, so I wouldn't be able to fund something like this. Also, I would like to find people who would like to donate their fertility drugs to other women in need. I know there has to be a way to do it (legally of course) and not get into trouble. I still have some of the treatments(follistim) left over that haven't expired yet. I've been meaning to get over to my old fertility clinic but I haven't been up that way in a long time. Maybe i'll stop by next week on my way to an appointment. I feel bad that I have been holding on to it when I can donate them. The clinic accepts leftover drugs.

Anyway, I do have a youtube channel that I was using while I was struggling with infertility. I was a part of the TTC (Trying To Conceive) community. We all gave eachother support, advice, friendship. Everyone has their own diagnosis(both explained or unexplained infertility). It's incredible how many of us are out there. I came across a lot of nice people. Once I had Ava, I stopped vlogging. She kept me busy and I didn't have time to edit and upload my videos but I still keep in contact with some of the ladies.

My passion would be to try to help other women reach their dreams. Either by conception or adoption. Help them find the resources. It's sad to know that money can keep you from being a parent. From my experience with going to a fertility clinic: Not only is the Invitro and the IUI expensive.. What about the countless doctor appointments (copays), time away from work(time=money), gas, and fertility treatments? It sucks!

Ava's acting like a mad woman.

Till tomorrow....
