Bowling for Soup! :)

August 30th 2009 19:45
Over the summer I made the transition from alternative rock to country music. I have found country music easier to relate to since graduating college. However, I’ll still sit back and listen to some alternative rock every once in awhile. One of my favorite alternative rock bands is Bowling for Soup. Bowling for Soup is made up of Jaret Reddick (vocals/guitar), Erik Chandler (bass), Chris Burney (guitar/vocals), and Gal Wiseman (drums).

What makes Bowling for Soup different from every other band is they play happy music. Their music has an uplifting vibe. In college when I would feel overwhelmed I would turn on some Bowling for Soup in order to relieve some of my stress. I would recommend Bowling for Soup to everyone, even people who don’t like alternative rock. I believe Bowling for Soup’s attitude is enough to make someone like their music. Below I have youtube links to some of my favorite Bowling for Soup songs. Enjoy!

-When We Die
-Almost
-Much More Beautiful Person
-Girl All the Bad Boys Want

Scorpions- Wind of Change

July 17th 2009 14:28
The early 20s have been interesting for me so far. I graduated college a few months ago, entering into the “real world”. My older brother is engaged to get married. I have two cousins who are married, one of which just gave birth to her first child last month. Two more of my cousins are in serious relationships which may end with marriage. Times have changed and my cousins, siblings, and I are adults. All the changes make me think of the song “Wind of Change” by the Scorpions.

Three years ago my family went out to Arizona to visit some family. My grandparents are included in that family and at the time they were celebrating their 54th wedding anniversary. I made them a slide show DVD as a gift. One part of the DVD showed pictures of my two brothers and me growing up. I used “Wind of Change” as the background music for that section. Now every time I hear “Wind of Change” I think of how fast life goes by and the simpler times that came with being a child.

The Scorpions are best known for their hits “Rock You Like a Hurricane” and “No One Likes You”. “Rock You Like a Hurricane” and “No One Like You” are both in-your-face rock songs. “Wind of Change” is the exact opposite. “Wind of Change” is a powerful, meaningful song. If you have never heard “Wind of Change”, do yourself a favor and go to youtube, find the song, and take a listen.

My recent interest in country music has introduce me to many new artists. One of these artists is Montgomery Gentry. The first Montgomery Gentry song I heard was “One in Every Crowd”. I liked “One in Every Crowd” because the song sends a feel good vibe. After listening to “One in Every Crowd” on youtube, I noticed some other Montgomery Gentry songs on the side panel. I listened to and enjoyed “My Town”. Then I clicked on “Something To Be Proud Of” and there was no turning back.

“Something To Be Proud Of” pinpoints the important things in life. Some people might think having a bunch of cool cars or making lots of money may be something to be proud of but Montgomery Gentry begs to differ. Montgomery Gentry puts everything perfectly when they sing-

“You don't need to make a million
Just be thankful to be workin'
You can do with what your able
And putting food there on the table
And providing for the family that you love
That's something to be proud of”

Reflecting on Fatherhood

June 30th 2009 23:11
Father’s Day was over a week ago but I wanted to take some time to talk about two songs which are about fatherhood. Before I start I want to mention I’m not a father but this past Father’s Day I learned to look at fatherhood from a different perspective. I was able to hold my cousin’s newborn baby. It was the first time I had ever held a newborn and the experience has made me excited to one day be a father myself. The reason for this is summed up pretty well by Rodney Atkins in his song “Watching You”.

“Watching You” by Rodney Atkins- When kids are little their role models are often their parents. They want to be just like them and to have somebody idolize you like that has to be pretty darn cool. Just thinking about a child one day wanting to emulate me puts a smile on my face

Some of the best music makes you question your life and how you are living it. Nickelback’s newest single, off their Dark Horse album, “If Today Was Your Last Day” is one of these songs. A listen to Chad Kroeger’s lyrics and you might find yourself looking at life in a new way.

The Nickelback song forces you to ask yourself- how would I act if today was my last day? Thinking about the question can help break from your day-to-day routines. Falling into these routines is just a part of our everyday lives. When you go through the same continuous routine every day it is hard not to fall into such routines

A Little Bit Country

June 17th 2009 04:20
I have always considered myself a Rock/Alternative Rock guy when it comes to music. I like anything from the feel good rock songs of the 1980s to the more depressing alternative rock songs of the 1990s. Lately though I’ve noticed a change in the music I have been listening too. I have found myself caught up in the country scene.

As you would expect from a rock fan I have never been into country music. I think my change of heart towards country music deals with the life changes I'm going through right now. I graduated from college a month ago and I am in the midst of the student to adult transition. Certain country songs speak to what I’m dealing with these days. I’ve listed a few of those songs below

Music is my life!

June 16th 2009 18:41
Hi everybody! My name is Zach and I am a freelance writer. I have two other blogs on orble- www.filmreviewer.net (a movie blog) and www.seekextreme.com (a professional wrestling blog). While I enjoy movies and professional wrestling, I'm most passionate about music. In fact I would say music is my life.

I love music. I always have it playing no matter what I‘m doing. If I'm online I have youtube open in another tab playing music. If I'm writing I listen to some of my CDs. If I'm laying down in bed relaxing I'll have the stereo going. At night I would rather sit and listen to the radio then watch TV
