Exploring possibilities using Computer Art as a motif
October 5th 2006 10:22
This is my brand new blog and the possibilities are endless.
Where should I begin? I have no idea where it will all end.
What I do need is to establish an audience and engage them with what I write and do.
I am interested in the development and maintenance of the brain throughout life and ensuring we continue to sprout new neural connections to compensate for any of those nasty little plaques and deposits that stop the transfer of information freely about in the brain, which dulls our senses, reduces our memory and impedes the growth and maintenance of our intelligence.
How can I engage others? By adding a new dimension to our normal activities and using computer art for young and old to explore its possibilities for learning and creativity.
Already it happens for the young but not so much for older people and young and middle aged adults.
It can teach many things and enhance awareness of shape and form, especially the geometric shape and use of ratios and numbers. It gives a sense of proportion and demands a degree of skill and also requires a measure of computer literacy.
It should appeal to those who like to use graffiti as an expression of their angst with society. Perhaps this will be an oulet for them that is far more respectable than defiling public and private property.
This is just the beginning of our journey of discovery. Already as I write I am diverging a little and thinking of new things. I'll have to hone up my computer art skills with the simple program Microsoft paint which comes as an accessory with most software available to the average home user.
My initial attempts this second time around lead me to believe this new "paint" is not so flexible, nor so challenging as the original Microsoft Paintbrush, which is no longer available.
Apparently those who design these things are unaware of the unexpected applications of what they design and when they abandon it they think more of pixels and resolution and instructions.
It turned out to be so much fun learning on the old Paintbrush which I initially dismissed as being absolutely useless, that is, until my mind took over and set aside my primitive thoughts.
This has been a long first blog. I'll be adding to it less intently from now on, giving those who want to share my views, a chance to think about what I have to say and hopefully to respond.

It's very interesting, what you say about the brain...it's our greatest tool.
