Johnny Depp

November 18th 2009 13:20
I have been a fan of Johnny Depp for as long as i can remember. I always thought he was a good actor, but in the past few years it has dawned on me just how amazing he is. There is no limit to who he can play, he takes a role and brings the character to life. And as for imitating real people, it's uncanny how well he can take on their persona and actually become them. Even in films that i have hated, he has made the film worth watching (i'm saying this about From Hell).

The film that has me writing this blog is Ed Wood.

I own some of Ed Wood's films and have enjoyed them immensely for their campish, so bad it's great qualities. I felt pangs of dread and guilt after seeing Ed Wood.

Depp shows Ed to be a struggling film-maker, aspiring to an unachievable dream, but never giving up. The dedication he had to his films was amazing, the lengths to which he went to ensure they were made. I love the fact he was strong enough to wear women's clothes out in public, that would have taken guts, especially back then.

I will never watch plan 9 in the same way again. That goes double for the first scene with Bela Lugosi, it is no longer unnecessary to me, it was Ed Woods way of paying a final tribute.

As usual Tim Burton is genius in every aspect of the film's direction and production. Sarah Jessica Parker was actually really good too.

I know this is a poorly written piece, but i needed to get something down to express how this film touched me. I don't know if that was the intention, but it really made me feel something genuine. Johnny Depp's portrayal was really moving, and i have to give a HUGE kudos to Martin Landau. He actaualy had me convinced that Bela Lugosi was in this film. But he's dead, right?
