The Little Girl Learned....
I have heard the mighty roar of a lion
Echo out across a South African, star-studded night
And the haunting call of an Zimbabwean Fish Eagle
Dance along golden sunset waters where hippos play
I have seen the endless stretch of a desolate
Botswana landscape where pink flamingoes fly
And watched the shift of the red sand of a Nambian desert dune
I have been swimming with the magical Nessie
In Scottish waters, deep and mysterious
And skipped across colourfully dotted English fields
Where butterflies play and bees float with the clouds
The battlefields of European lands have crashed
With the sounds of metal swords and shields.
I want to paint a rainbow with a Leprechaun
Across a rugged Irish shore
The vine-covered ruins of an ancient Peruvian settlement
Call to me loudly on a South American wind
While the trunky finger of an Indian elephant
Beckons to me from cool forest leaves
I want to watch the changing colours of an Alaskan sky
As the icy air tickles my skin
Feel the warm, sandy voice of a Gobi Desert breeze
Whisper its secrets in my ear
I want to dance on a moonlit Malaysian beach
And listen to the stories of souls lost to the deep
Soak up the tales of a Tibetian monk as they
Silently float to my ears on an incensed breath
For now I will watch as the waves crash ashore
Golden Australian beaches under aqua glowing skies
And climb the rugged cliffs of Tasmanian mountains
That reach into snow-filled clouds floating high
I will sail across white-capped seas to calm
New Zealand soil where people smile with welcomed arms
And hop across islands scattered across the sea
By some giant hand that long ago reached down
The world is wide and full of so many wonders
That stain a lifetime with joy and pain and open
Eyes wide to possibilities only ever dreamed of before.
