The Lighter Side of the NBA
Here's a few news stories a little lighter in tone from the last few days:
* Joe DeRosa will have to think twice when handling the ball next time, not because he's a player with a ton of turnovers to his name, but as the referee who for some reason decided to pass the game ball to a fan at half time of the Magic/Celtics game two. I can understand the 'interactive experience' side of that thought perhaps, but still, that seemed weird. What's worse? Mr DeRosa was suspended from his next outing without pay. Maybe the NBA should watch the English Premier League. The amount of balls into the stands ...
* Yao Ming has officially become a Dad. His wife gave birth to a bouncing baby girl the other night at a Houston hospital. All the best to the new family, and here's hoping Yao can use this as inspiration to build up his NBA career once more.
* The Washington Wizards are on the verge of being owned by an NHL team owner. Washington Capitals main man Ted Leonsis is preparing to take over as majority owner of the team, once a pet project of Michael Jordan (who moved on to the Bobcats). That comes just moments after winning the draft lottery, and it's another club with a new owner for next season (the Nets, for those of you playing at home, are team 2.)
* And finally, Dwayne Wade has testified against former business partners over a failed restaurant deal, which would have involved a chain with his name and face all over it. To be honest, I'm glad it never happened. I don't like the idea of eating pasta off D.Wade face shaped plates...
