The House Design

Obviously the next step to getting our house built was to sit down with the builder and design exactly what our little castle was going to look like.
Being in a flood zone the first requirement is ensure all the living areas are upstairs. As I love a bit of a workout, that wasn't going to be a problem at the idea of lugging groceries, toys and bits and pieces up and down stairs. Mark loves the idea of getting a view above the cane, especially when it's grown really high.
We have friends who own a cane farm and they have the best deck out the back for entertaining and just outside living, so it was our first requirement..even before the kitchen!!!
We decided on three bedrooms upstairs. There will be a 'storeroom' downstairs that can double as a spare/guest room during those dry times.
I insisted on two items for the house. The first was a walk-in wardrobe, as I'd never had one before and the other was.....drum roll.....a laundry chute!!! From the three way bathroom we will be able to shove all our dirty togs down a hole in the floor to the laundry below. I know, at some point, I'm sure the kids will try going down there themselves...but that's the risk you take with two overactive little boys.
Our kitchen is HUGER than where we live now, but that is really not saying much. My mum's wardrobe would be bigger. It will have a lovely view of the cane fields. The design I will put in another post.
The master bedroom will have sliding doors out to the deck as will the dining room. The house faces towards the river (although there isn't much view as we are two streets back) and has a westerly aspect, but the way we designed the house means the kitchen gets the morning sun and the two smaller bedrooms get the afternoon sun. Air-conditioning will be a must during our summers.
