The Great Indian Politics

November 19th 2007 04:35
Politics is not something that is discussed extensively at the thousands of “Chouk”,spread over all across India now. There has been gradual shift of intensity in recent years because the importance of local political activists have diminished. There are some states where only people of dubious characters are seen politicking. The student politics has been completely hijacked by the spoilt rich brats and their associate, mostly muscle men known for their criminal records.

The good thing however is that the local affairs are being given more attention now.Sensing the changed mood and preference,News Papers have been forced to change their marketing and Circulation strategy.Almost all the News Papers have started now multiple edition and they subcategories that too district wise.Television Broadcasters have woken up too and very soon there will be numerous Local Television Station .NDTV realized this too and has started “Metro Nation”as the first initiative in that direction.Sahara Group ,T.V.Today Group and Zee Group have already started local Television Stations.

There are more than 250 Local Television Station in the USA which are very popular for their interactive features.

The Zee Group in India tried to push this initiative through “Citi Channel” and the response was very encouraging. Many of its city specific channel became very popular initially even though the quality of content and broadcasting was not professional grade.Hinduja Promoted "In cable net" also introduced local programming in various cities. These Companies failed to capitalize their initial successes they met primarily because they succumbed to the advice of marketing junkies who pressed for the network expansion and up-gradation at the cost of content augmentation.Had they concentrated upon the content and quality broadcasting then they would need not start a fresh again now, which are they planning to do again.

Sahara Media and E Tv started numerous channels for specific states without much preparation and as a result have not been able to establish their foot hold.NDTV seems to have noticed the mistakes made and as a result it is more or less certain to succeed.

In the News Paper segment Dainik Jagran took the north India by storm.Even without any prominent journalist on its pay roll,it managed to corner such a large readership because it concentrated upon the requirements and taste of its readers.

The politics is discussed at Chouck even now but it is mostly Panchayat Politics.Panchayat has suddenly become the nerve centre of rural India.Money are pouring in and there are various works related to one scheme or other being carried out. This development has made tectonic shift in attitude of the people.Like Participatory Journalism, they are happy to be the part of Participatory Politics now. They feel empowered and are enjoying that too.
