The Grand Canyon - Arizona

There are canyons and then there’s the Grand Canyon. It’s not the deepest canyon in the world, or the widest, but it’s one of the most well known.
I have a habit of arriving in places around sunset. In most cases it’s advantageous if I’m looking for a beautiful landscape to feast my eyes on. Other times, it can be a little creepy (especially when driving through dense forests...but I digress).
The Grand Canyon is one of the landscapes that proves to be an artist’s masterpiece, regardless of the time of day. The cloudless skies keep the night at bay as the canyons open out to ranges of intricate colours and rock formations.
The Colorado river cuts its way through the canyons, meandering in and out of view, with a murky yellow colour. It is result of the mineral rich water that has washed itself into the river. It is a two day hike to the river and back again from the South Rim.
Located along the South Rim is Grand Canyon Village and the visitor centre. There are free shuttle buses to various lookout points along the rim.
The visitor centre is well equipped, with clean facilities a bookstore and ranger guided tours. The number of tourists around the lookout points are few, but it could just be the sheer size of the canyons that take away any sense of being overcrowded.
