The End of Earth As We Know It

April 26th 2009 05:56
This close to 5min video is amazing - it shows a digital imagining of the end of the world by an asteroid 500km wide.

If anyone knows who sings the song that plays through it I would be grateful.
It should be noted that evidence suggests this has happened to our planet 6 times already. This is not caused by us being selfish via global warming or the Nth Koreans pressing the big red button - it is out of our control. Enjoy this uplifting piece to show you how puny we truly are.

Man - this kept me spellbound - and the backing track only added to the mystic.

Nice.

Isn't it amazing MNG. I really want that track - hope someone knows it. I am thinking Morgan might - she is good with that stuff. And what do you think of the Google Ad in the text - we actually have a date of the next hit now 21/12/2012

Jason,

This is something else and I could say so much here about this 2012 prediction being wrong, but will not because just like Y2K it would be a pointless argument beforehand (or simply because no one really knows) . .and one I hope I will be able to say to you; see I told you so, in 2013 .

The brilliant sound track is from Pink Floyd*s Dark Side of the Moon : Track 4 called : The Great Gig In the Sky.

One of my faourite albums and individual tracks of all time!!

An Amazingly depressing thought this and I am left to wonder how long it would take before life could begin again?

That's incredible. I don't find it depressing at all. Sure it'll be scary as hell were it to happen in our lifetime but just think of the infinite possibilities for the new life forms that will eventually emerge from the debris.

Thanks Lilla - no one does ever know - I really do hope you get to say "I told you so" in 2013 otherwise who cares - we will all be dead anyways and I won't be misisng out on anything. At least prediction is a few months after my 40th so I will get my party at Tetsuyas
OMG - is that really the song? Or someone else singing it or does Pink Floyd have an awesome backing vocalist. I even have that album here somewhere - will have to dig it out.
In Earth's time I think it would be nothing for the planet to grow back again - in our time I reckon a couple of thousand years aught to do the job.
Thanks for the song and your comment.

Wow Ruby - what a great way to think of it! I like it! I wonder what will crawl out of the soup next time.
Let's let it happen to our great great great grandkids instead

Hmm, i think you should write or read about 2012 Mayan Calendar, or about nibiru.

End of the world is Real. 2012 is end of human being.

I'm not sure why that video was so emotive... I don't consciously believe that any of our predecessors have actually correctly predicted Armageddon, or the day life as we know it will end so to speak. So that side of things doesn't really weigh on my mind.

That said, if do not subconsciously believe these stories, in part at least, then what other explanation is their for my hairs to stand on end when I watched the clip?

Great blog Jason!!

And yes Ruby, imagine what life form's might flourish next. That's the saddest part I guess, knowing that we won't be around to see the beginning of the beginning

Jason,

not to be picky, (and really not that seriously, okay?) just goofing about here . . but another inconsistency here is that if all the land masses, as we know them, were ripped up and/or torn asunder, then why show the final stages of the devastation with all the continents blackened, dead, lifeless but exactly in the same shape they are today.

This 2012 ending is only as you will imagine it my friend, try to find a more fitting one, the Mayan prpophets say. How about getting on a spaceship which are supposed to come and offer us a choice way off in 2011? If you do chose that option, remember not to max out your credit card in Christmas 2010 okay? just incase you need to swipe it to hitch the ride on the saucer outa here.

Lilla ...

Nice bit of terrification!

But I'm not so sure the Parthenon would still be standing!

Thankfully, world killers are very rare, but when the Solar System was being formed, events like this were commonplace.

And if the dinosaurs had a space program, they might still be around, as Arthur C Clarke once said.

I might do some stuff on my blog sciencegadget - visit later this week for an update!

Wow - thanks for the comments everyone.

Yulius - I have looked into Nibiru and this one is kind of freaky as NASA is going all XFiles on everyone and denying anything about it although evidence is there to suggest they have changed the name of Nibiru and that it is coming into our solar systems orbit - thankgod not slamming into the planet as the video suggest. In regards to the Mayan Calendar ending on 21/12/2012 this has also been suggested to be not something representing the end of the earth.
The astronomer Philip Plait has stated very clearly that the Mayan calendar does not end in 2012 at all, that it is like the odometer on your car, as each section of the odometer reaches 9 and then clicks over to 0, the next number to it starts a new cycle, so that when all the numbers again reach 0 all the way across the odometer - the last number will change from 1 to 2 and the new cycle starts all over again.

Mau-Medellin - I thknk the video makes hairs stand on end as we are alone on this planet and if something like this did ever happen - we are screwed - all of us except some NASA geeks and Richard Branson with his upcoming space fleet - maybe he knows I also think the soundtrack to the video oozes some genuine emotion. But imagine if some us could survive underground and then come back to rule the new Kingdom of Earth - I love it. I am going to start digging!!

James - thanks for the Pink Flloyd confirmation - it is an awesome song. Glad u liked the post.

Morgan - how dare you go away for a weekend and have fun and not be here to help me on the blog. LOL. Hope you had a great time!

Lilla - pick away!! I think the edges of the land masses would be torn asunder but I think the only place to be fully devastated would be ground zero - the rest would just be dented and blackened by chucnks returning to earth after impact. They would only be tiny - like chunks the size of Tazzy.
I am all for the space ship - I could finally have my Capt Kirk fantasy and boldly go where others have not. Damn - the credit card spend was definately on the mind. BOO LILLA!

David J - I think the Parthenon was a bit of irony - it has stood through one civilisation so why not another. I found it poetic. Oh - what a great quote from Arthur C - but is our space program prepped enough for a 3yr launch and where the hell do we go? Just point to the second star on the left and punch it!

Thanks for the comments people - was nice to get them all after work. On Dec 20 2012 I am having a massive party - please steel as much alcohol and drugs as you can and let's party like it's the end of the world. WOOT Everyone invited!

Jason, yeah I know, bummer.

bit of a mind spin here but when i was looking for moldavite, I came across a phycist called Wal Thornhill. His book: the electric universe is revolutionary in that he discovered that plasma controls our universe, not only gravtity. The point being it is alive and it is the earth herself who would zap such a meteorite into a million pieces with a huge discharge of energy. There is just so much evidence, and during his lecture I nearly fainted at the way it shifted my consciousness in how I see the universe t how it really is. Then the zapped meterorite falls to earth and cools and we have these extra terrestial rocks and crystals like moldavite.

Its the discharge of this energy pulse of plasma that causes the crator and why there is often so little Space *rubble* left which would be there if all this rock had impacted in such a huge foem.

Some of the proof is astounding in that the thing we call rivers on Mars are actually clearly going up and down the mountains, something water could never do It was like looking at *Thors* mighty lightening bolts (of plasma) ???

Fascinating, of course as always it will take the established world of science and everything else 100 years to accept anything new, its been set up that way, but I will feature some more of Wal*s findings in the Esoteric bookshop soon.

See you here at the party with a few bottles!

Lilla . .

I love it Lilla - so when a big meteorite is coming I will hold my TV above my head and I will be fine. Haha
The theory is awesome and I would love to see our planet come alive and become a Death Star in our moment of need.
Scientists only believe what they are trying to prove or create - I completely understand how it would take 100yrs to accept.
Esoteric bookshop? OMG - I just saw it's one of your sites - never visited before - off to have a look. COOL.
I just tracked down a Feng Shui book I have wanted back in my collection for years. I lent it to someone who then left for Ireland and never returned - the book was lost. But tracked it on Ebay last week for $5- and am so happy.
The Fundamentals of Feng Shui by Lillian Too - by far the most practical how to book for the subject.

One word. Wow. I couldn't imagine anything coming back after something like that. It would take thousands of years. Also, how would we know that it sucked. We would all be dead in a matter of minutes.

kidwithopinions (great name by the way) - it does look pretty absolute with its devastation. I also think 1000's of years. But life has a very diverse and aggresive need to live so once the skies cleared and the fires stopped burning - it would be like a world backburn - plant life would be aggresive in it's regrowth - as for animal life, the cockroaches would get to rule the world for a while, but as for mammals we might tike a few million years to crawl out of the soup again - unless like some amazing Hollywood/ religious film we had a very deep underground Noah's Ark locked up with all the smart people and they could come back out and start the rebuild a few years after destruction day.
And we would have a few minutes to know it sucked
