Mazinga, Dragun and Dwight Schrute

Well, I have developed an ebay addiction so my blogging time has dwindled to zero for some time. Somehow, I further developed an obsession with old 1970's Shogun Warrior die cast toys (Mazinga, Poseidon, Dragun, Raider, Gaiking, Raydeen....anyone?) in this process. Actually it all started because I sold a motorcycle on the site and it went downhill from there. Actually, I quite like it and have managed to make a few dollars in the process. On the flip side, I have happily shelled out $160 for toys that cost $5.99 when they were new in 1977. So technically, I really haven't made a cent. But it's fun and most of the people on ebay are pretty solid citizens. My ebay username is 'lonewarrior70' (don't ask me why). Anyway, if you are as obsessed with the Japanese uber-toys, or anything for that matter, drop me a note.

And please bid on this shirt (or my talking 'Office' pen-any Dwight Schrute fans out there

Been awhile since I went podcasting about with Earl. But I have been busy. The site (www.swoutpost.com) has been undergoing reconstructive surgery and it's a painstaking process. Site design and engineering is a frustrating and arduous process from my experience. Esepcially if, like me, most of the tech/code work has to be done by someone else (i.e. you don't know how to build your own site

Podcasting about with Earl

Just had lunch with a mighty friend of mine. I like going to lunch on Friday's with my friends. The gentleman that joined me today is Ric-a friend of ten plus years. No mere mortal, Ric is a media God. Perhaps this is an overstatement-of course it is-but he's a smart, successful guy with a good read on media and the wave of digital excitement sweeping the world. He's also very tall.
We started discussing the nuances of podcasting. Podcasting will be my next digital obesssion, I can feel it. I shot a fishing show with a full bore ENG crew once. I've even shot some amateur 'found' stuff. Why not podcast? I gracefully failed at th others anyway so what's left?
Once you get the right equipment and figure out how it all works-simple-you can pick something you love, hate or feel indifference toward and gleefully expound upon it. And people will love it. Or can you? And will they

What Makes A Blogger Great

To my repeat readers: You may ask yourself "Will this blog ever improve to the point that it is entertaining and marginally informative in any way?"

Answer: Maybe. Here's the dilemma. I launched SaltWaterOutpost.com about six weeks ago. Although it has been a verifiable exercise in frustration over the last twelve months, it has worsened since then. Steadily adding members and users, the site has bugs, glitches and user gremlins to spare. So, I put my original developer (an adept graphic artist and gamely, if inadequate, site developer and engineer) down and swam out beyond the breakers to find myself a new direction and some new digital talent 'overseas'. I searched everywhere and ultimately exchanged funds in the form of a deposit with a Delhi based, London firm (or is it a London-based, Delhi firm?) to rengineer my site HQ'd here in the U.S

Today: Cut Bait...with a Cylon

It's official, I lust ofor Caprica 6. And Kara Thrace (sometimes hate her). Xena the Warrior Cylon, too. Laura Roslin is pushing some of my buttons but I think there's something Oedipal happening there. Moreover, Admiral Adama is the greatest leader in history, or the historic future, and although Lee is prone to bouts on insolence, he too is admirable and likeable. Lastly, one-eyed Tigh. Hard to like, but tough enough to get some respect. I'd want him on my side but don't think we'd be friends in real life. Then again who could be friends with a miserable, cantankerous old drunk whose wife bangs everything she sees and drives him to the unthinkable. Here is one of the beauties of this story and its rendering. It explores current life and death political dilemmas from every angle and confuses thie issues as they are confused in real life. The players are powerful and feeble, strong and weakened, deblitated, redeemed and reborn. What is right gets blurry and who is right is usually unclear until the last second or, as in life, may just be a matter of opinion or left unresolved to be determined by later generations

Take the Queen Fishing

Today: Fish, with the Queen perhaps?

It's always something of a mystery to us here in the U.S. when a Royal comes to town. Particularly the Queen herself. It's been fifty years since her last visit which alone is newsworthy. Royalty here often comes in the form of inherited wealth or vicarious stature-like, say, Paris Hilton. I use the brain and dignity-devoid Paris as an example because as I watched the Queen's arrival and all the pomp and circumstance, I found much of it rather pretentious. I wondered why one human being should garner such deference even here in the U.S.-a country where she is just another foreigner (blasphemy? perhaps). I mean, take the "walkabout", where the Queen 'informally' wanders about and talks to people outside of an event location or other special place. So informal is this walk that one can't offer their hand to her unless she offers it to you. Not sure I like that but I guess she is "The Queen" after all. As I thought forward, I considered those in our beloved homeland who enjoy notoriety and found it all similarly phony and created

Cinco De Mayonnaise

Ok, so it's only Cuatro De Mayo here in Nuevo York. And so what if I am Italo-Irish by ethnic descent? It's time to celebrate (any excuse will do really.) Cinco De Mayo, which is technically tomorrow of course, has become like St. Patrick's Day-"everybody's Irish on St. Patrick's Day!" here in the U.S. It's always been big in L.A. where I lived many moons ago. But it's catching on here too. Perhaps Corona realized that it was a swell marketing opportunity. But every morning news show and AM Talk Show had a chef from one of the many fine Mexican restaurants here in NY cooking things like Pork Taquitos or Jalapeno Rellenos for breakfast (Gas X and Tums for dessert I suppose) so it must be more than a clever beer sales ploy.
In the spirit of the day, I must now be off to one of my favorites-arguably the best Mexican in New York-Dos Caminos. I am joining my friends Rita and Brendan who have been know to order an adult beverage or two. Friday lunches in New York when the weather starts to turn nice (it's a balmy 70 degrees and sunny) are always a good excuse for a long lunch with friends and a buzz. Who am I to buck a good ritual?
If I can walk and write, I'll post a follow-up. If I can't, tomorrow's entry will be really interesting

SWO Gets Supercharged-the Digital Dockside Corps Ready Themselves for V. 2

Below is my new editorial on SaltWaterOutpost.com (posted today-5/3/07). After an exhaustive search, I selected the man we think will give our cherished members the redesign and engineering expertise SWO needs to take its next big leap forward in 'fun factor' and functionality. Onward!!!!:

SWO has already reached a few milestones and now stands at its most recent crossroads. We are now welcoming several new registered members each day.
