"The saints sit up in heaven twiddling their thumbs because so few people pray to them any more." - St Madeleine Sophie Barat

The Day God Left Town

July 9th 2008 22:21
Beyond the bare-arsed brutality of childhood

when God leaves Christianity

in the hands of parents, and grandmothers

faint from their own hypocrisy

young girls burgeon

bursting the singlet, bursting the bra

bleeding on the inside

blossoming on the outside

Breaking their own seals, and

family ties

they go in search of love

via the highways, byways and corridors of

lust

with shameless uncertainty

rivers of unshed tears

Dry eyes are a thin film of moisture

glazing over pubescence

breaking into bloom

dewdrops trickle down the stem

Deflowered for the first time

(fumbles, open petals and flapping wings

but the buzz overpowers the bumbling

and honey is always sweet)

they get a taste for the swarm

yet survive the frenzy

and replant themselves in new fields

the virgin is reborn

I like this.

I am poetically challenged myself but can appreciate it from time to time.

love it, especially this

I like it, but I dont. Too close to the bone for me I think.

Damo,

Glad you like it ...

It's a bit of a deviation from my normal style. It might be why it appeals to you ...

David Lady

Deviations always attract me.

Louie,

It never ceases to amaze me how women like the parts of my poetry I like least

Maybe I should write unedited more often

As to the originality, I was taught, "If you've seen it in print, don't use it."

And ditto. Nice to get a comment from you. I Haven't been Orbling much. Not sure if I will a lot. It depends upon too many things.

Kleo,

No probs.

I wrote it for a woman who told about a bit of her life. Maybe her life parallels yours a bit. I haven't show it to her for maybe the same reason. But I felt like writing it.

And that is always the best reason, darling.

This reminds me of the angst I encountered over the vixen, slut, mother, whore, saint and wife conundrum; so bereft of time, so many virgins and so little staying power without petrol chemicals.
