The Dark Knight Second All Time Box Office
November 22nd 2008 21:44
A decade ago, a love story taking place on an historical boat broke an all time record by earning $600,788,188. Yes, TITANIC was and still the greatest movie of all time. That record was expected to be broken by THE DARK KNIGHT mostly because it passed the $500 million bar two times faster than TITANIC – And you wonder why people go on strike.
THE DARK KNIGHT is the most successful Batman with $506,482,539, making it the second highest grossing movie (domestic). Somehow, it had to struggle form time to time compared it’s fellow Superman, but not this time – Remember SUPERMAN RETURNS didn’t do as well as expected – Anyway, I’m glad that Batman has finally taken center stage because to me, he is the best superhero. Compared to the others, he doesn’t come from another planet, got in contact with some chemical, got affected by comic rays or mutated. The guy has absolutely not superpower and has to rely on himself and his human capabilities. Yet again one might argue that his fortune is his special power. – Those toys don’t look cheap.
In total, there have been four people who have played Batman/Bruce Wayne: Michael Keaton (BATMAN, BATMAN RETURNS), Val Kilmer (BATMAN FOREVER), George Clooney (BATMAN AND ROBIN) and most recently Michael Bale (BATMAN BEGINS, THE DARK KNIGHT). The Best portrayal was Val Kilmer. This guy looked and felt like both Batman and Bruce Wayne; he really brought the character to life. Worse portrayal was George Clooney, just didn’t feel it.
There are rumors of a third BATMAN with Johnny Depp as The Riddler. The bad part with BATMAN being so popular is that a movie BATMAN BEYOND won't be coming any time soon.
