This is part two of the series "Politics and the New Media." <a Really Long Link is part one</a>.

Barack Obama, Mike Huckabee and Ron Paul are the candidates I think of when it comes those that utilized the Internet most effectively. Barack Obama can attribute his success online directly to his success with younger voters. I feel Mike Huckabee did a respectable job because of the efforts he took to involve bloggers and other average Joe's. Ron Paul was very successful because of his ability to rally his supporters around the cause, so good that he was the highlight of part one.

From this we'll move onto those that completely failed to take advantage of the New Media and social media. Hillary Clinton was stuck in old politics all the way, this includes her stale attempt to tackle the online media. It's not to say she didn't raise any money or have people online pushing for her. The problem was that the emotion wasn't there and therefore the viral effect from Paul and Obama were not seen from Hillary's camp.

It's surprising because Hillary launched her campaign online. This was supposed to signify the new era of politics. Instead it was a thin attempt to attack the hipsters. While Ron Paul's supporters did all they could to attack the topics and remind people of their man and Obama's were simply everywhere, Hillary was just a faint noise in the background. If you an Internet user you already knew Obama was the winner two months ago. That's how thick the buzz is.

Hillary wasn't the only one to fail to latch on to the new media. Other candidates have made some seriously pathetic attempts that in the end had to play a part in their inevitable withdrawal from the race. Dennis Kucinich would most likely go down as one of the worst of this year's election. His hideous website alone would cause any downright designer to shoot themselves in the foot. It's no wonder he lost, it's not the 70's anymore.

Who would you add to this list? Do you disagree? I'd love to hear your thoughts.

My wife’s brother and I often talk about random things when we go to visit her parents. It’s always interesting to hear what he has to say considering he doesn’t agree with me on most topics. It’s always a friendly debate and more times than not we don’t leave with different opinions but we’re enlightened because we took the time to listen to one another’s opinions. While I’m not sure if he’d consider himself an atheist or an agnostic, it’s clear he doesn’t believe how I do and because of that we don’t see eye to eye on abortion.

Abortion is not an issue I take lightly, it is the number one reason I got involved in politics. The response I typically get from him is that a fetus is not a human being. A human being has a mind and can process thought. A fetus is just a blob of cells and there’s nothing wrong with aborting a blob of cells. There are problems with believing that and I’ll explain my thoughts to you just as I did to him.

Why do people get abortions? More times than not an abortion is preformed because the woman does not want the child. The woman can’t afford the child or they think they are too old to have another child. Notice something? Women don’t have abortions because they can’t afford a blob of cells or don’t want another blob of cells. No matter how early into the pregnancy they are the woman is contemplating aborting a child, they realize that, that is the problem with the blob explanation. People realize that the blob is a child, they then have to explain why it is acceptable to kill a child.

Beyond that a fetus starts to develop the brain and nervous system just three weeks into it’s life. Long before that, during week two, the fetus has developed a heart and it now beats. Does a blob having a beating heart? If I cut off a chunk of your hair and throw it to the ground like so many do to a baby is it basically the same? It’s not. Those for abortion are left with a new struggle. You can no longer say that a fetus is not a child. You now have to convince us all that killing a child is acceptable. Go ahead, I’m listening.

A McCain win, a GOP Loss

June 20th 2008 03:41
One thing is for sure, the next four years are going to see a lot of change. With Barack you will see liberalism at large. Every law in the book will be challenged and abortion and gay marriage will run a muck. What about McCain? Amnesty for all, global warming will be sworn in as the new war and the GOP as we know it will be dissolved. Let me expand on this.

John McCain has shown himself a worthy diplomat. That’s great but as President you have to fight for the countries interests before ‘togetherness.’ McCain has a problem with that, he would rather please the other party than get his own parties agendas put into play. With a Democratic majority I don’t see McCain getting much done. With his victory you can say goodbye to conservatives having any sort of influence. You can also expect a horrific loss in 2012 and the complete destruction of the GOP as we know it.

With an Obama win we would be looking at eight years tops of liberal rule. You will see a resurgence of conservative control in the GOP as a result and the party would have new life and would return to its roots. John McCain, however, would shut out conservative and bring on the new face of the GOP. An Obama win would be destructive but a McCain win would be worse for the future of the GOP and the influence that the conservative movement has with the party.

With John McCain the conservatives no longer have a party to call their own, no say in any policy decisions and no hope for pushing our agenda. With Obama the GOP is left to realize the roots of its loss. The party would shamefully return to those that gave it hope and condemn it’s RINO ways. It’s a dangerous gamble but it’s a battle we can not lose in the long run.

Politics and the New Media

June 20th 2008 03:35
In this new series I want to take a look at the internet and how it has effected this years election. For those that took advantage of the various resources of the internet there were many benefits. For those that fell behind it was a sore loss indeed. For Ron Paul the internet has been the one place that his revolution was allowed to spread like wildfire. Some candidates got it while others remained clueless. Raul was definitely someone that championed the New Media.
