The Bulb That Died
March 27th 2008 18:26
Seems like there are many people jumping on the energy-efficient bulb issue. It should come as no shock. This bill is aimed more at the freedom of choice than the mercury issue. I totally agree with the freedom of choice part, seeing that as I have stated the energy bulbs cost more than the regular.
Still we, in the United States, are on this toxic metal kick that keeps appearing in everything from toys to food. Mercury is the culprit this time. Usually it is lead. We might have to think this lightbulb thing a bit more than usual. We already have mercury in our households. A thermometer to take our temperatures...that we put in our mouths...contains mercury. Although one never comes close to the mercury, what if a child broke a thermometer and was exposed to mercury? Mercury looks like tiny balls that move about quickly. It is extremely toxic.
