Occam's Razor - by Adam Williams

The Blood Countess

February 10th 2010 21:54
Inside the castle, the dim flicker of candlelight was making disfigured horrors on the walls. Shadows embraced each other in a dance of death. The room was large; large enough to fit six hundred people in. Overhead there was a large crystal chandelier that was the room's main source of light. The entrance hall was cold, as was the rest of the castle. A small fire was being tended to by a small figure. The figure stopped what he was doing and turned to look at who had just walk in.
"Ah, good evening Occam." The figure said.
"Good evening Longfellow, how are things tonight?"
The man named Longfellow sighed. "Could be better of course. Our Lady is not well. Her mind is troubled as you know. It grows worse everyday. Once this business is done with she will return to her usual self I expect."
"And how about the rest of the Circle?" Occam asked.
"The one's that are still around have been morose. Morale has been bad. They simply do not understand how all of this has been happening. Never before have we been threatened like this."
Where is she?"
"The Countess is in her study, she's been expecting you, as I'm sure you know."
"Of course."
Occam bowed to Longfellow, and then walked toward the study where his Mistress was waiting for him.
"Occam?" Longfellow asked.
Occam turned to Longfellow.
"Do be careful, she's not in a great mood at the moment."
Occam nodded to him. He knocked on the door to the study.
"Please come in Occam." A voice said from behind the door.
Occam opened the door, walked inside, and closed the door behind him.
Seated at a large wooden desk was a beautiful young woman. She stood when he came in. She was wearing a long purple silk gown. Her hair was brown and currently in a tight bun. She stood five feet-four inches and had beautiful milky white skin softer than velvet. Her nose was a small button and she had full lips. Any man who looked at her would feel his knees buckle under her beauty. Of course, that was her most dangerous trait.
Elizabeth Bathory walked over to Occam and kissed him on the cheeks, European fashion. He kissed her cheeks, then her hand. After he kissed her, he knelt.
"My Lady, may your beauty light up even the darkest of nights."
"Ah dear Occam, it already does. Please rise and join me in the sitting room." Elizabeth said affectionately.
"Of course my Lady, I shall wait for you there."
With that, Occam bowed and left the room.
Elizabeth walked over to the study's powder room. She took a bowl of red liquid from the counter and dipped her fingers into it. She frowned, not liking the tepid temperature of it.
"Blast, the blood has cooled. This will have to wait until I get a fresh virgin then."
She raised the bowl and drank every last drop of blood.
Elizabeth Bathory lived in a small village in Slovakia called Cachtice. She has been known by many names, most famously The Bloody Lady of Cachtice and of course, The Blood Countess. This latter name was the one that she preferred. She got her name by her evil deeds.
Exceedingly vain, she vowed to stay young forever. She abhorred the idea of growing old. One day, she came up with the solution. One of her maids was asked to bring her some makeup so she could get ready for a dinner party. When the maid brought her the wrong makeup, Elizabeth slapped her so hard that the maid began to bleed. The blow caused some of the maid's blood to land on Elizabeth's face. When she saw herself in her mirror, she marveled at how the blood made her skin so youthful.
After the dinner party, the unfortunate maid was murdered and her blood drained into a bath tub. Elizabeth bathed in the blood, certain that her youth would be preserved by the blood of virgin girls. For the next thirty years, she continued to murder helpless servant girls and girls from the nearby villages. In 1610 she was caught and put under house arrest. For four years she was confined to a walled up room in her castle where she was reported to have died.
