Occam's Razor - by Adam Williams

The Blood Countess Continued

March 4th 2010 21:46
Her obsession with remaining young forever paid off. A new being was born. She became a vampire. She found a skeleton of one of her victims in the room that was to be her tomb. She took off her clothes and dressed the skeleton in them. When her captors came to do the monthly check on her, they found the skeleton and believed it to be that of Elizabeth. They took the bones and burned them, thinking that Elizabeth was finally gone. The Blood Countess fled to a neighboring country for many years until it was safe to return to her home. Reports of disappearances were never solved in the neighboring country, but it was Elizabeth back to her old ways.
She decided that she had had enough of this and decided that she needed to do something else. She left Europe and went east. She left a bloody trail in the wake of her travels. Peasants from Russia had their blood spilled, staining the snowy ground the deep color of crimson. Still further she went, getting a taste of culture. She traveled when the ebony of darkness set upon the earth.
Finally she reached the land where mountains touched the sky. Her quest was at an end. The Blood Countess met with mystics and shamans. She was taught the ways of meditation, reflection, and self defense. The Elders taught her how to battle demons, vampires, and other creatures.
When she returned to Cachtice eighty years later, her castle was in ruins. She "persuaded" some locals to help rebuild her once glorious home and ever since she has been living there in secrecy. In 1783 she founded a secret society of vampires whose activities and motives are unknown, unknown to the rest of the world, of course.
Most members of this secret society were sired by the Blood Countess herself, with the exception of a select few whom she sought out. The society gathered information about vampires reportedly having unorthodox motives. She made it her business to meet these vampires individually and ask them to join her cause. Vampires from all over the world were initiated into her society.
Eventually she found 28 vampires from 20 countries who would serve the most honorably, each one having unique talents. Their talent was dealing death of course. Each member of this society was an assassin, including the Blood Countess herself. Each was highly trained in various forms of combat, even before becoming vampires. Some served in the armed forces, others were warriors for their villages, and still others were mercenaries. All were very good at what they do.
Each new member was taught by the Blood Countess and underwent years of training, focusing on expanding the body and mind. She taught them what the Elders taught her. They were taught the way of the silver, the garlic, the icons, the runes, and the words.
In the spring of 1794, the Blood Countess went to France where there were reports of two vampires terrorizing the country. By then, her Circle was gaining strength and she set out to destroy the vampires. She found them both, but to her surprise, they were not working together. One truly was a monster that needed to be dealt with. The other was one of his victims. It was the latter that the Blood Countess searched for.
Occam met the Blood Countess for the first time in Versailles, France while tracking Kurong. Both Kurong and Occam were making a fine mess of things in France. Terror was spreading and Kurong was quickly building an army of vampires. The veil of evil was threatening to envelope all of Europe.
Inside the sitting room, Occam and Longfellow were talking while they waited for Elizabeth. Longfellow, a vampire and an old member of the Circle of Thorns himself, was discussing the recent developments of Kurong's deeds. He looked dour.
"He's been making a mess you know," He said to Occam.
"Yes, well, it seems he will stop at nothing to get to Cordelia. I just hope that we have enough time."
"Did you give her the ring?"
"Of course. Perhaps she has more use for it than I do."
"Do you think she will join us?"
"That I do not know, my friend. If she doesn't that will certainly complicate things."
"Indeed."
They turned to see Elizabeth joining them in the sitting room. Both Occam and Longfellow rose to their feet.
"Please have a seat and let us discuss what is going on," She said.
They all had a seat on the leather sofa in front of one of the castle's many fireplaces.
"I understand that you gave the ring to the woman, Occam," Elizabeth said, looking dour herself.
"Indeed I did Countess."
"What do you hope to gain from this?"
"Countess, I believe that she possesses a power that will allow the ring to be used as a conduit. She has her own visions and perhaps she can use the ring to combine her own visions with those within the ring."
"That is conjecture." She said sternly.
"Of course it is Countess, but at the moment it may be our only lead. I think that she may be persuaded to join us, but I have my doubts."
"As do I, Countess," Longfellow agreed.
"She needs to see him, so that she may know exactly what he is capable of," Occam continued.
"Do you think that is a wise decision?"
"It may not be wise Countess, but it would certainly make her decide."
"Yes I believe it would. If she has already decided, it may also change her mind in our favor."
"Yes, I believe so."
"So what are your plans?"
"I must see her again," Occam said simply. "If she has put on the ring, then I'm sure she will want to see me as well. Of course, she doesn't need to put on the ring, it's powerful enough as you know. In any case she needs to be on her guard."
"Indeed she does, from him as well as from you," Elizabeth said, a bit too testily.
"My Countess, is everything alright?"
"Yes, fine Occam. I just want this business finished. Also, I haven't had my virgin and you know how I get when I don't get one."
"Of course I know my Countess. Shall I get one for you?"
"Dear Occam, that would be marvelous."
"As you wish, my Lady."
Occam stood and walked over to Elizabeth and knelt, kissing her European fashion.
"Please forgive me Occam, I'm just in a foul mood today," She said more affectionately now
"I understand."
Please be a dear and make it a pretty one."
"I always do," He said smiling at her.
