Ever seen a ghost?

This one falls under "Black Sheep" because, at least in the U.S., many people who claim to have had personal experience with anything other than the Here and Now are considered a bit odd.
Even if your experience comes complete with downloadable footage, photographs and sound bytes and has been certified legit by some guy from Yale, you're a bit odd.
Yet I have met a fair amount of rational, educated, well-grounded and credulous people who have a story to tell that falls into the "odd" category.
I avoid telling my own odd story as a rule; those who don't know me immediately assume I'm some pie-eyed mystical hippie type. Those who do know me tend to clam up and get that look that says, "D.'s been drinking too much", or something to that effect.
Since we're at Orble, a place frequented by many intelligent, pleasant people --and since I can't see the expressions on anyone's faces--here's mine, in a nutshell:
In 1984, just before I shipped out for the Navy, I saw a ghost. Several times. He would silently open our bedroom door (locked or not) and shuffle around the foot of our bed in bedroom slippers. He wore horn-rimmed glasses and a sort of mens' hat, like a fedora, and loose pants and white shirt. He was skinny and appeared to be in his 80s. He never said anything or did anything except peer around the doorway at us and shuffle around like he was looking for something. Sometimes things would turn up missing, only to be found later in places we had never put them. Our apartment was on the 18th floor of an old building on the riverfront. Our front door was triple-locked and deadbolted every night. I saw him four times before I left for boot camp; my ex-husband continued to see him several times after I left.
We have no explanation for him. He didn't scare us after the first encounter, we got no sense of evil intent from him..he just WAS.
And that's it.
Anyone out there had a similar experience?
