What to do with Iraq?

It was coming, it had tro have been coming soon. If this blog is about big questions then it was bound to crop up sometime or another. Some political leaders are vowing to get troops out of Iraq if elected to office. dates have been put forward and all eyes have turned towards the current leader's responses which have been exactly what we've been hearing for the last 4 years. indefinate. What I aks is this: Do we pull out and leave the people of Iraq to squabble among themselves in which cas the country will fall apart. or do we stay for the long hall. A recent report has shown that the people vital for rebiulding Iraq, people with all the brains (doctors, architects ect.) and all the common labour which is a vital part of any rebiulding, are leaving the country in droves. Some 15,000 refugees leave Iraq every month.

Do we stay? or do we go...

Test of endurance

I have recently discovered that most of my classes areb full of bogan/jocks and really boring slightly disturbing people. I found that I'm am not alone in my predicament.

Now after thinking this through for a while I came to a conclusion. I should drop out of school and become a plumber. That thought lingered for an uncorfortably long time and then I though I should try and change my classes around and try to be with more interesting people. At about this point, the little good part of my sub-concious (mum) told me I ashould knuckle dow and endure. my question is; is it reasonable to ask for half decent classes, or am I just being a snob.

Call it what you like

A recent article in The Age Magazine talks of a certain Mark Leigep who smashed his car into a street sweeper in an Adelaide suburb in March last year. Now he lies in a coma in an Adelaide hospital. The question put to us is do we keep people in his state alive.

This statement can’t be answered simply “yes” or “no” it requires a fair bit of thought and I personally can’t answer it. What I can say however is nobody except the patients knows what it is like to be in a coma. Dumb statement I know but I don’t think anyone has pointed out the obvious. How can we make a call regarding someone’s life when we don’t fully understand the situation? Or, is it something that we will never know and therefore we are forced to make such calls. Just imagine, you are in a coma and you can hear, feel and sometimes see your surroundings but you are completely incapable of any meaningful response. Or is a coma simply a very deep sleep? Still the question persists, the patients may be taking hospital resources and space that could be put to use else where, or do we persists and hope that with enough love and faith they will pull through. I can’t answer this, and I don’t know how many of you will be able to either.

Achilles and the Tortoise

This story or philosophical puzzle was written by a man called Zen who wrote these sorts of things in his spare time (as you do) he also founded Stoicism. This is the story of Achilles and the Tortoise.

Achilles and the tortoise decided to have a race. Because Achilles can run twice as fast as the tortoise he gives him a head start. When Achilles reaches the tortoises starting point, the tortoise has moved ahead by half the distance of her lead. When Achilles reaches that point, she will have moved on by half that distance again. And so on and so forth. Achilles is never able to catch up to the tortoise

Labour leader Kevin Rudd has proposed children undertaking their "learning" at pre-school as early as the age of 3. should kids be kids or do we take advantage of the time in which their minds are the most open?

Is it a crime?

Are acts of terror simply acts of war the the west is to conservitive to recognise? Is this a "new" way of waging war or are they crimes against humanity?
