A bicycle is a symbol of fun, simplicity, colour, adventure and happiness - everything a childhood should be filled with. Yet just as the humble bicycle can give all these experiences and feelings to children, it can represent what many of the world's children don't have.
In September 2008,internationally renowned author and illustrator Colin Thompson visited Cambodia with Save the Children. Struck by the way the humble bicycle was central to so many people's lives, he was inspired to create The Bicycle.
Following on from 2008 CBCA honour-winning Dust, The Bicycle is a beautiful picture book that explores how the bicycle fits into our lives in all different kinds of situations.
Featuring the illustrations of fourteen internationally acclaimed artists, including Quentin Blake, Tony Ross, Shaun Tan and Freya Blackwood, The Bicycle is a celebration of how much we can help others through simple acts of charity.
