The Best Ever

At Super Bowl media day, Randy Moss asserted that he was the best wide receiver in NFL history. At first i scoffed at the idea, but then i actually thought about it. Randy Moss is in fact better than Jerry Rice. If you look at the body of work, Rice had better numbers during his career, but rice also had Montana and Young throwing to him. Who did Randy Moss have throwing to him? Well i had to look them up cause i did not even know. here is the list of quarterbacks that Randy Moss played with Brad Johnson, Spergon Wynn, Todd Bauman, Daunte Culpepper, Andrew Walter, Aaron Brooks, Brett Farve (only four games with moss in 2010), Kerry Collins, Vince Young, Rusty Smith, Matt Cassel, Jeff George, Tom Brady, Randall Cunningham. While Moss had some great QBs chucking him the pigskin, he never had the continuity with a hall of famer that rice was afforded. Plus Moss had to languish on some very bad teams, while Rice was almost always on a team that was a Super Bowl favorite. Also Moss broke the single season receiving Td record that was held by rice. So to me at least, it is not the career numbers that matter, but rather the career impact that matters, and Moss has had more of an impact on the field than Rice had.
