The Annual Mackinaw Bridge Walk

The 51st Annual Mackinaw Bridge Walk happened this morning. If you have never walked the bridge before, it is an experience! Not only the crowds, but the view and the experience are one of a kind.
Here is the Mackinaw Bridge:
Now, imagine the bridge on a holiday, early in the morning, with the Governor of the state in the lead:
The Annual Mackinaw Bridge Walk happens every Labor Day, starting at 7 AM. The Governor at the time leads a group of joggers (you must register ahead of time to run) and then walkers follow behind. The east bound lanes are closed for walkers. Two solid lanes walk across the bridge!
The bridge is 5 miles long and takes approximately 2 hours to cross. Don't forget one lane is metal grates to allow rain and snow through, so you can actually see to the Straits of Mackinaw below. And if you happen to get a windy day, the bridge sways gently and you can feel it!
Walking is free, but if you want a bus ride to the starting side on St. Ignace, it is $5 per person. Walking is from St. Ignace to Mackinaw, with the last walkers being able to start at 11AM. There are no bikes, roller blades, roller skates or jogging allowed.
